Last we heard from Mission of Burma, the Boston post-punk outfit was busy reissuing and remastering. Since then, they hit the studio to do some recording and on October 6th, they’ll be doing some releasing… of a brand new studio album! Titled The Sound The Speed The Light, the Bob Weston produced effort will mark the band’s fourth full-length and overall and first since 2006′s The Obliterati.

Speaking of The Obliterati, Mission of Burma describes its latest album as “more spacious and dynamic” than its predecessor. The Sound The Speed The Light is divided into four “sets,” or suites of three songs, each of which explore moods or colors. Lyrical topics covered include “alcoholism to fleshly concerns.”

That said, the band did not mix everything up. Per Matablog:

The military snare drum, the melodic basslines high up on the neck, and the furiously experimental guitarwork, refracted and changed back into the songs via tape loops – all punctuated by the hoarse shouts of drummer Peter Prescott. This controlled chaos, this disciplined letting go, is the heart of what they do and it remains as exhilarating and fulfilling as ever.

To verify these aforementioned statements, Mission of Burma has provided an early taste, this in the form of the album’s first single, “1, 2, 3, Partyy!”. They also debut the track during their performance at the new Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn this past weekend. Check out both below.
