Well, someone doesn’t like the Blink-182 reunion!
The Blink-182 reunion isn’t even a week in, and one of the band’s members is already contemplating his next move. And a supposedly monumental move at that.
On Valentine’s Day (February 14th) 2010, Tom DeLonge and Angels & Airwaves will return with their third full-length album, Love. And perhaps most importantly, the followup to 2007’s I-Empire will be free, as in costing you absolutely nothing free.
Speaking of the album in a recent interview with Billboard, DeLonge called it “the biggest release of [his] life” and “the pinnacle of [his] creativity.” Love was compared to Pink Floyd’s The Wall in terms of scope and ambition, and words like “super-conceptual,” “highbrow,” and “artistic” were used to describe it.
“It’s like blending Radiohead and U2 together with these kind of Pink Floyd movements,” DeLonge explained. “Things happen unpredictably and take you to these epic soundscapes. It’s very much in the spirit of Angels & Airwaves, but it sounds way, way more thought out and way more ambitious.”
The artistic nature of the album will further be complemented by the simultaneous release of a film. Love, the movie, reportedly “tells a story of human life and destiny, but at the same time really makes usual moments of life extraordinary … it’s a circular narrative, where it kind of sums up the human race in a time capsule.”
So, to summarize, new Angel & Airwaves album, titled Love, hits stores on Valentine’s Day 2010, will be on the level of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, and comes about a year too late (Good idea though!). There will also be a film, also titled Love, that will come out the same day and tells the story of who knows what.
For a more visual preview, the band has unveiled a three-minute trailer featuring music from the album, scenes from the film, and the frontman talking about how he’s going to change music.
Who knew Love could be so freakin’ complicated/annoying…
In other news, Blink-182 is still a band, and DeLonge is still singing songs about poop — while changing the music world of course.

all of you seriously grow up he likes his band get over it .
Good thing those pre-teens won’t be able to handle the sun, we can just fight them outside…
Sure, we all laugh now, but once DeLonge raises his army of preteen-punk rock emo kids who spend more time putting on eye-liner than being in the sun, we’ll see who’s laughing. We’ll all see.
P.S. When I first heard Tom talk about A&A, I thought he was joking. I actually laughed to myself a little, and thought, ‘That Tom’s a funny guy’. Boy was I wrong.
hahaha laughable. I feel ashamed to be raised in the same town as Tom.
people like DeLonge with exaggerated ambitions and nothing to back them up are straight laughable. The ideas of “super-conceptual,” “highbrow,” and “artistic” should never be used with DeLonge at all. And alone comparing himself to Radiohead or U2 is an exercise in idiocracy. Why can’t rock stars grasp their own boundaries or at least keep their artistic integrity by letting their releases speak for themselves.
I just find it hilarious how about a year ago he was all “I’M NEVER GETTING BACK WITH BLINK-182 BECAUSE I’M SO MATURE NOW AND I CAN’T SING THOSE SONGS BECAUSE ANGELS AND AIRWAVES IS GONNA CHANGE THE MUSIC WORLD FOREVER I WOULD KNOW BECAUSE I LISTEN TO U2 I AM MATURE GODDAMMIT!!”
… and then a year later in that Doritos Late Night thing there’s a video of him talking about going in a closet when he’s all sweaty and pouring Doritos all over his naked body.
YOU ARE MATURE, TOM. YOU ARE MATURE. TOO MATURE FOR BLINK-182.
Exactly lol.
“It’s like blending Radiohead and U2 together with these kind of Pink Floyd movements,” DeLonge explained. “Only my vocals will still sound like someone is ripping my dick off. Actually, now that I think about it, it’s probably not going to sound anything like Radiohead or U2, it’s probably still going to sound like Blink 182 or one of our other shitty spinoff bands.”
