All Points West ticket sales down; organizer won’t confirm return

The numbers are out for the second annual All Points West Music Festival and they aren’t as good as one would hope. According to the New York TImes, tickets sales for the festival’s second edition, which featured Jay-Z, Tool, Coldplay, My Bloody Valentine, and nearly 60 others, were 71,500 for all three days, down some 4,000 from last year.

Paul Tollett, the president of the APW’s promoter, Goldenvoice, cited the poor weather leading up to and during the festival as one culprit for the drop, noting it likely deterred many last-minute ticket buyers.

When asked what this means for the future of All Points West, Tollett said he has yet to contact Liberty State Park, the location of the festival for its first two years. “This show needs time to develop and find its home,” he said. “I’d like to do it again. I’d like it not to rain.”

  1. Or maybe they can take a hint from Lollapalooza, which sold out this year in spite of awful weather the first day.

  2. This was my first time attending. The mud and rain sucked but after a few drinks nobody really cared. Don’t think I would go again unless there was someone really amazing playing.

  3. APW needs to die. Hands down the worst festival that I’ve been to. No thanks.

  4. I am sure a lot more money was put in to this years festival than last years. More space, bands, lower ticket prices. GV is hurting bad. It’s sad NYC cant have a proper festival. Someone needs to come up with something new and different.

  5. Aside from the cardinal sin of cutting Gaslight Anthem’s set in their own backyard, I’m impressed that they pulled it together as well as they did. They had to deal with a fairly insurmountable trifecta of a Down Economy + Headliner Cancellation + Terrible Weather Forecast.

Everything about this show was an improvement from last year. They had a more diverse lineup with more relevant “name” acts on the undercard. They introduced the tent. They introduced the comedy acts. They greatly improved the layout and the art installations (that string of balloons was incredible). Even the much reviled “beer prisons” were improved.

It would really be a shame to see a bunch of things outside of their control sink them, when they seemed to get so much right.

  6. Get radiohead next year and I can gurantee they’ll see those 4,000 tickets come back ;)

on a more serious note i agree with Tony, Only loosing 4k in this situation is not terrible. I’ve had fun both times, If it comes back again I’ll be there

  7. let it go so that goldenvoice can concentrate on coachella

  8. Please no. I had so much fun this year.

  9. you know i wasn’t all for it last year. in the tri state area there are so many rules and regulations you don’t c everywhere else int he festival world. coachella i have been and yes when does it really rain out there lol but here on the east coast things can’t be the same they have to be different cause hey we are different.

i attended apw this year and yes the rain and mud do suck, (i feel that it brings more fun the show in some ways as it does bring you down in others) but i thought the acts this year were amazing and though tool was the only main stage headliner i saw i heard good things from my friends who were fans of jay z and coldplay.

i thought the venue was insane on the river like that and the beer limit wasn’t as bad as i thought even though when you shut down beer @ 10pm and the festival ends around midnight you probably could up it to 10 a persson lol

i think you should have it next year and i think you guys are getting better at it, i should know i’ve been to so many festivals it’s all i enjoy anymroe lol but take a note from me. beer gardens shouldn’t be, baltimroe’s virgin festival didn’t have them in 07 and 08 and they were awesome shows plus they had high end liquior too and even red bull vodka stands lol. bring more fun and try and open it up more. another tent full of top danc and electroni act would be awesome etc. etc.

all in all i think it was great i had a blast saw 16 new acts live and a few i’ve seen already. my hats to the yeah yeah yeahs, gorgol bordello, and mgmt for kicking some royal ass

ok i have typed enough lol

    Peace

  10. They should be thankful it was only down 4k from last year given the economy at this point. Festivals have their place, sucks to see a big one on the East Coast go away. Maybe they can wise up and get a sponsor like VirginFest and put something on for free.

  11. I agree, let this festival die in peace and bring those acts back to Coach like they should have the past 2 years.

  12. it may be time to let this festival die in peace….. :(
