Could it be… another new Radiohead song, “These Are My Twisted Words”?

Could it be… another new Radiohead song, “These Are My Twisted Words”?

While the rest of the world may be preemptively mourning the loss of Radiohead, given last weeks rather depressing news, the guys that make up the legendary outfit are very much alive and at work… at least that’s what a suspicious mp3 leak would imply. After last week’s “Harry Patch (In Memory Of)”, an out of nowhere surprise to all, a shocking bit of news told fans and the rest of the music world that Radiohead would not be putting out a new LP anytime soon, and possibly never again. Well, that may be the case, but a potentially new, previously unheard song titled “These Are My Twisted Words” has surfaced from somewhere amidst the depths of the interwebs, and it shows signs of life for the Fab 5.

A rather strange post to the unofficial Radiohead fan site At Ease, simply titled “New song leaked, These Are My Twisted Words,” started all the commotion earlier today. While the post gave no link or explanation it did lead to a search which eventually resulted in the aforementioned “These Are My Twisted Words”.

As the Line Out reports, a “nfo” file accompanies the mp3 on P2P sites and features a “Yorke-ish screed tucked into it”…

i just wanted to reassure readers
that following representations
seeking confirmation
that before your very eyes
behind the wall of ice
that the box is not under threat
however they are set to remove
other boxes
in fact i have the list in front of me
i went to a briefing on their plans
and challenged them to tell me
exactly what the cost would be

they spoke in broad terms

Emails to Radiohead’s representatives have yet to be returned.

As for the track, like most Radiohead songs, it’s got a lot of layers. No alarms and no surprises there. Things begin with some droning volume swells, before “Arpeggi” style arpeggios enter in with Phil’s click clacking drums. For a while it feels like it could just be an instrumental, and the not-so polished background screeches and squeals give it a bit of a rough edge, but eventually Thom’s smooth pipes find a place. “These are the twisted words,” Thom enters alongside Colin’s thumping bass. It’s not all that crazy or mindblowing, but hey, it’s a new Radiohead track so we’re not complaining on this end. It may not touching any new areas like “Harry Patch” may have, but it’s every bit a good Radiohead tune as it should be, fit with atmospheres and what have you. Let’s hope there’s more where that came from. If things keep going this way, people may even forget that albums were ever even a thing in this world of ours. I could sleep well knowing free downloads of new tracks from one of the world’s most fascinating bands exist in this world. We’ll be here waiting for the next one, chaps!

  • you guys are idiots. So quick to judge. As soon as a band who has give us some of the greatest albums of all time, and has been arguably the most consistent, and self inventing band of all time, releases one song(not an ep or an album) that is not up to par with your idea of whats good / bad, you slam them completely.

Its just a song, its not a full length album.

The song is good, the song is infact great. 4/4 drum beat over a 5/4 guitar riff is quit chaotic, yet it is inventive. The atmosphere is dark, and eerie, with great atmospheric guitar sounds and vocals.

What were u expecting, the greatest song ever?

  • i was sitting here trying to jerk off to this song and it just left me completely flaccid. i was imagining johnny greenwood going down on thom yorke and even that didn’t help. not one of their better efforts. going to put on something by the strokes right now…or maybe my standard, ‘Come Together’.

oh radiohead. is there a Happy Ending in sight? Love, Seth xoxoxo

  • H ah a all you little fanboys your band is dead. I have to laugh at all this hype! COULD IT BE RADIOHEAD??? HUH? SUCH A JOKE. Pitchfork and all you other journalist fuckers you guys are just pushing your own brands. Pitchfork tries way to hard and some of their staff don’t have any music knowledge. Radiohead used to be a good band. They used to surprise us a little. Now they just sit around and think of the next way to hype a song or album. they are now more of an ‘alt’ media company than a band of musicians.

its a tired game radiohead. i’d be happy to pay for a good song. this is shit.

  • Could it be? cmon of course. why the hype? radiohead used to be good. this is just tired though. Rainbows would have been a graceful way to bow out. Now we have to sit through this. It’s not ground breaking, it’s not even a good song. Just noodling, basic chords mostly same self-defeating mood. shit really. And Harry patch? Horrible it’s like Johnny Greenwood at his 1st day of Music Composition 101. It’s choppy and rudimentary.

    R.I.P. radiohead.

  • Well I guess people can stop saying CoS just reposts Pitchfork stories now?

  • unpolished is right. sorry my radiohead standards are higher. And I highly doubt this was recorded in the last couple years. Probably just a ‘Hail’ b-side left in the cutting room surfacing

  • They make unique music… and good too! I like this song. Hopefully the “haters that be” will not defy RH simply because they have a desire to produce music on their terms. Making music when it feels right always leads to more meaningful and magical material. If it’s 2 songs here, 5 there, then a soundtrack, and a documentary… right on, I’m cool with that. IMO, whatever music they create with passion (w/o a label and deadlines/ attitudes) will be primo.

  • what.cd seems to be the orignal source. The forum linked forum thread was started about 15 minutes after it was uploaded there.

It also does not seem like the user who uploaded it seems like a normal user. Only 5 snatches and no uploads after being a member for over a year.

  • woo, thanks for the latest tune, not a bad song at all, more enjoyable than the Harry Patch tribute in my opinion, although you’re right, not doing anything ‘new’ like that did. Thanks also of course for linking over to our mourning post lol!

    Jeff August 12, 2009 at 11:51 pm

  • This song is awesome. I don’t think they are done. Maybe done with touring for a few years but that’s it.

  • Awwwwwwwwwwweeeeesome song. I like this way more than “Harry Patch” This is classic Radiohead, wonder when they recorded it? Surely they can’t be finished with making music. I’ll bet they’re just tired and want to take a break for a long while.
