Lollapalooza 3D film coming soon…

Documentary films are nothing new for music festivals. But 3D documentary films certainly are and thanks to some rather new cool technology employed at last weekend’s Lollapalooza, the first of what could be a new way of watching music festivals will be out before you know it.

As the Chicago Sun-Times reports, Lollapalooza 2009 was shot with cutting-edge camera technology provided by a partnership of high-end outfits, including Network Live and Action 3D. The footage will be used not only for an hour-long HD special for broadcast on Fuse TV this Saturday, but also for an upcoming 3D documentary feature.

The Sun-Times has the geeky details on how it all works. No official word on when the 3D documentary will be released, but according to someone involved with the filming, the goal is a release for this fall.
