Noah and the Whale’s The First Days of Spring, an album and film, due out in October

Coming this October, Noah and the Whale will offer The First Days of Spring, both in the form of a brand new studio album and feature film.

Basically, the band got the idea of following up last year’s gold-selling Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down by putting together with not only a new full-length of new material, but an accompanying film of the same title as well.

The First Days of Spring, the album, was recorded in London and New York with producer Emery Dobyns (Patti Smith, Antony & The Johnsons) and is billed as “as very much a departure and development of [the band's] debut album’s ambitions and textures.” In other words, as the issued press release notes, if you only known Noah and the Whale from the song “Five Years Time”, you’re going to be surprised.

The First Days of Spring, the film, was shot on a minuscule budget on location in London and Surrey with an ensemble cast that includes model Daisy Lowe. It can be seen as a “companion piece to the album, as a visual version of it, or as a piece of work in its own right but this decision is one which Noah and the Whale have decided to leave up to the listener and viewer,” the press release goes on to read. For a taste, check out the trailer below…

The album and film’s October release will proceed by single #1, “Blue Skies”, as a special e-single on iTunes beginning September 8th.
