Check Out: Weezer - “If You Are Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)”
Well, all the rumbling and foreshadowing rings true: Weezer’s back with new material. Just a year after the mediocre-as-fuck Weezer (The Red Album), our favorite distorted book worms sneak up with a new single. Yes, one fresh off the presses, and you can thank Big Ol’ Wally (of Wal-Mart) for leaking it (via TwentyFourBit).
Titled “If You Are Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)”, the bouncy, acoustic, ’50s jingle is equal parts K.T. Tundstall (”Suddenly I See”) and Okkervil River (”Lost Coastlines”) with a lil’ flair that extends past the trashy, plastic pop as of recent (”Troublemaker”, for one) and becomes a fun summer ditty. Also, it sure as hell beats the latest nonsensical collection of covers and “meh”-inducing live performances. But music aside, what’s with the song title? Aren’t long song titles just downright irritating? Ugh.
Let’s not get all riled up yet. We all know what “Pork & Beans” brought: something Cubs fans recognize dutifully as, disappointment. Until then, be like the bold Weezer fan you still strive to be, and enjoy the little glimmer of light we’ve been given.
Then wait for the as-to-be-self-titled seventh effort to hit stores October 27th. The single itself has an official street date of August 25th, and you can download it here via Amazon. In the meantime, however, you can check it out below (via We All Want Someone to Shout For).

I’ll admit I liked Red at first because it was a step up from Make Believe, but after really listening to it I realized Rivers should never let anyone else sing.
“Thought I Knew” makes me want to barf.
i think the red album was anything but mediocre. make believe wasn’t very good but i really like the red album. king was probably one of my favorite songs from last year.
I’ve loved every album the band’s released in some respect, but the last one (The Red Album) didn’t do much for me, and I feel it was plagued with sequencing errors. “King” and “Pig” should have been on there over the Cuomo-less tunes, especially “Thought I Knew”. But “Dreamin”, “Pork & Beans”, and “The Greatest Man…” were exceptional.
Maladroit was actually a good album in my opinion
Weezer broke up after releasing Pinkerton. There is no such thing as Green, Maladroit, Make Believe, and Red. Hoorah! Let’s get back to our lives.
more brand new Weezer/ Rivers Cuomo as of August 17th 2009.

[...] If anyone could clue me in on what exactly is going on in the minds of Weezer these days, I’d be sincerely grateful. After unveiling some rather sub par new songs in concert last month (and that’s putting it nicely), Rivers Coumo and Co. actually redeemed themselves yesterday with the release of their forthcoming album’s first single, “If You Are Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)”.
