Weezer calls seventh LP Raditude
If anyone could clue me in on what exactly is going on in the minds of Weezer these days, I’d be sincerely grateful. After unveiling some rather sub par new songs in concert last month (and that’s putting it nicely), Rivers Coumo and Co. actually redeemed themselves yesterday with the release of their forthcoming album’s first single, “If You Are Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)”.
Unfortunately, at least currently, redemption in Weezer’s world lasts only 24 hours. Today, the garage rockers brought a whole new meaning to their “I don’t give a fuck” attitude by unveiling the title of their aforementioned new album. It will be called Raditude and no, we’re not joking.
Per Weezer.com:
…MEANWHILE, the album that the new single is drawn from, Weezer’s 7th Album due out on October 27, DOES INDEED have a title, and the title is “Raditude”! “Raditude”?? WHAT is “Raditude”? WHO is “Raditude”? WHERE is “Raditude”? WHEN is “Raditude”? HOW is “Raditude”? DONDE ES “Raditude”? QUIERO “Raditude”? Là où “Raditude”? Pourquoi “Raditude”? Quand “Raditiude”? Quel “Raditude”? Waar “Raditude”? Waarom “Raditude”? Wanneer “Raditude”? Welke “Raditude”? Wo “Raditude”? Warum “Raditude”? Wenn “Raditude”? Welches “Raditude”? Dove “Raditude”? Perché “Raditude”? Quando “Raditude”? Quale “Raditude”? Raditude “Raditude”? ….”Raditude”?
Sigh.
Raditude hits stores on October 27th via Geffen. Get rad.

“If you’ve ever seen a one-legged dog, then you’ve seen me…”
i prefer to see you do the chris benoit diving head-butt off the top rope
I heard something about “tag team”. Is it cool then if I wear spandex and throw an elbow off the top rope?
Sonic Youth AND Dinosaur Jr.?
::faints::
i wish i had some money to. plus both of those bands live near me and aren’t playing near me. what is that?
It starts out as a discussion about Weezer’s new album, then about NIN being industrial.
THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT SONIC YOUTH. They’re playing Terminal 5 with Dinosaur Jr. Tickets go on sale on the 21st. I wish I had money.
i remember that argument and i think it had more to do with people didn’t want to say that green day is punk when in fact all three of those bands you named are punk. also how does being mainstream take away a label? does that mean because christina aguilera is mainstream she doesn’t make pop music or because the rolling stones are mainstream they don’t make rock music? lables are shit because bands evolve but i don’t understand why people get so defensive about them.
True, but nonetheless, NIN is still in that realm or considered. You know, this whole argument reminds me of when I had to defend bands like Rancid, Green Day, or even The Clash against the label of punk. All these kids with egg-yoked hair that would say, “Fuck that, you idiot, it’s not punk!”
What can we learn from this? Labels are shit.
“Industrial music is an experimental music style, often including electronic music, that draws on transgressive and provocative themes. The term was coined in the mid-1970s to describe Industrial Records artists.”
– Wikipedia.
Plus, when I think of industrial, I think of Ministry or Rammstein. NIN is too mainstream to be considered industrial.
I figured you’d respond that way, debaser. So I decided to quote the Encyclopedia-Britannica, just one of another million sources to pool from, and here’s what these “idiots” had to say:
“American alternative rock act known for dark and tortured industrial rock songs. The “band” Nine Inch Nails was essentially a stage name for singer and multi-instrumentalist Trent Reznor (b. Michael Trent Reznor, May 17, 1965, Mercer, Pa., U.S.).”
“Industrial” rock songs? Boy golly, I just don’t know about that! By the way, if you care to read on:
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1472349/Nine-Inch-Nails
actually the google source wasn’t michael. what do you think industrial music is anyways?
good journalism there wanker….wiki and myspace and google.
way to reach the top!

guess everyone’s wrong

These are just a few examples. Frankly, I find it hilarious that he doesn’t consider them remotely within the industrial genre. But that’s okay. I just like a good conversation, right?
haha i don’t think that was sufficient evidence.
debaser, I’d like you to take a quick lil’ “gander” at these few links:
http://www.myspace.com/nin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Inch_Nails
http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/nine_inch_nails/artist.jhtml
Now, when they say “industrial” do they mean something else? Please, educate us. I’m willing to listen. No, really.
nine inch nails are NOT industrial, they never have been.
please educate yourself on that genre cos’ you look like an asshole.
i think some comments around here come across as negative or pushy even when they aren’t meant to sound that way because it is sometimes impossible to understand someones tone through text. nymphs in nebraska is an excellent name by the way seeing as al they have to do out there is eat corn, drink and have sex.
On a tangent, if you don’t think NIN is industrial, we must not be talking about Nine Inch Nails. Is there another NIN? Nymphs in Nebraska? Nerf is Neat?
I hope it’s the latter because no it’s not “industrial pop” and yes I love some Nerf!
Well, in some respects, you’re right. With the grammatical comments, they’re not deleted out of spite but rather consulted and corrected, of course.
And when did we call NIN “industrial pop”? To be honest pal, I could probably write a 20 pg thesis defending or arguing against that title…but whatever. Pretty baseless defense, debaser.
Also, I don’t see it as ganging up, so much as questioning or maybe inciting discussion. After all, we respect readers because we want them. If it comes off as negative or “pushy”, it’s only because we’re that interested in the discussion.
well, i’ve had posts deleted because i’ve corrected errors…that is not cool! own up to it, don’t delete peoples posts cos’ you guy screwed up.
you called nine inch nails “industrial pop”…wtf? they are neither!
you and alex tend to gang up on anyone should they question either of you.
nice way to build a site!
this is beginning to have the feel of the 311 thread.
Then why return? And what errors? I spend a lot of time with each review, and find these attacks unruly and unnecessary, debaser. Seriously, get over yourself.
problem is, it’s really annoying and many of your reviews are shitty and full of errors.
so you both come and pat each other on the back like drunken frat boys when anyone disagrees with either of you.
That’s a good observation, debaser. After all, we’re bffs. Duuuuuh.
Word to Nick.
i know that’s how you feel. i’m not judging you guys for bashing anything, by all means bash away. i’ve said before that i like that you guys will write about anything good or bad. i think it’s funny that i actually happen to be listening to “thought i knew” as i’m typing. i think what hurts this band for the most part is that the first 2 albums they put out were masterpieces and anything after that were considered subpar by a lot of people. i actually thought the red album was a heavy step above make believe. i was just half joking when i wrote this morning that i wanted you to stop picking on them for 24 hours.
i’ve noticed that alex and micheal like to tag team a lot.
i know you like the new song michael but you bashed on the red album in the same breath.>>>
Well, apologies around. The truth is…they made a mediocre album. In fact, it’s so mediocre…it’s paint by numbers mediocre. If you can sit through “Thought I Knew”, “Troublemaker”, “Everybody Get Dangerous”, and “Automatic” without wincing or feeling a sharp pain in your gut, then I applaud you, sir. But it’s mediocre. It’s beyond mediocre…it’s actually kind of, well, not good.
We still write about them because a.) it’s news and b.) I still enjoy the band. They do, after all, still know how to write a tune. That’s why it’s disappointing when they issue something underwhelming, which lately they’ve been doing very casually.
i know you like the new song michael but you bashed on the red album in the same breath. which is fine if that’s your opinion but i love that album. everyone is looking for them to write only in dreams or the good life again but it’s hard to recreate such success. alex this band still makes good music you just hate on it and it makes me sad like an emo kid.
*sigh* i keep checking out the new weezer albums in hopes of it sounding like blue/pinkerton, but i am always disappointed.
It’s not an issue of looking “cool.” What are we supposed to say? Weezer came up with an inanely genius title for its new album?
Look around. We aren’t the only ones criticizing the title or for that matter the actions of the band as late. Just saying…
the snarky comments from CoS and Pitchfork regarding weezer are so played out, its to the point everytime some bit of =w=news comes out before even clicking the link i know there will be some mean comment. “ima do the things i wanna do, i don’t give a hoot about what you think” too bad these websites think its more important to ‘look’ cool or have cool sounding album titles than to do the things that are important to you. i think weezer gets it, i know pitchfork DOESN”T, and i’m not sure about CoS lately with the weez hating
People keep saying negative things about weezer, but ironically enough they keep writing about weezer. If you guys hate them so much why do you care to write about weezer fuck-off and pick on the many gay bands and music that is going on now a days. Weezer will always be weezer one of the most praised bands with a huge number of true fans, divorced fans, or hater fans however you want to call them. There aren’t that many bands like weezer, green day and foo fighters anymore. These bands will always be on top of the other million little bands of the 21st century.
I don’t hate this band at all. And if you read my review of their new song, you’d see I actually praised it.
What have they done over the last two years to give you any indication this band still cares about, oh, actually making good music?
can you guys just stop hating on this band for a day, please? i’m always going to love this band. who cares if the album is called raditude? rivers is crazy and always has been but i’ve bummed that the last few days you guys have done nothing but pick on these boys.
