Norah Jones attempts to wow indie kids with new album

Norah Jones has accomplished a lot in nine short years. She has sported three number one albums, sold over 36 millions records worldwide, and can say she got to hang with Hugh Grant in Two Weeks Notice. But if her yet-to-be-titled fourth LP says anything, the 30-year-old is now attempting to accomplish perhaps the biggest feat of them all: acceptance in the deep, dark, and scary world of indie music.

After all, just take one look at what’s on tap:

  • Mr. Cool himself, Ryan Adams, and Will Sheff helped co-wrote much of the music appearing on the album.
  • Jacquire King, best known for his work with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and Modest Mouse, served as producer.
  • Drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer) all provided musical accompaniment.

“I knew I wanted to try some different things on this album,” Jones said of her latest offering. “I’d been playing with the same musicians for a long time. We’re all still friendly and I hope we play together again, but it felt like a good time to work with new people and experiment with different sounds.

The untitled album is scheduled to hit stores in November. No word on when American Apparel will start to sell Norah Jones t-shirts.

  2. Am I the only one to fail understanding the indie and hipster references?

  3. alex you must know who i like because you just seem to pick on the bands or artist in this case that i like and yes mikey el madmo was awesome.

  4. Newsflash: Norah Jones covers Tom Waits song; a couple albums later she also uses his producer. How will we ever anticipate her next wacky antic? Still, sounds like a recipe for delicious sounds.

  5. after the amazing from-left-field El Madmo album, this doesn’t really come as a huge surprise. i’m looking forward to it.

  6. [...] As we previously reported, Grammy Award winning and all that is good in the world musician Norah Jones will be releasing a rather indie friendly album in the coming months. What we didn’t tell you though, because we didn’t know until just now, is that the name of this album will be The Fall, it will be released on Novemeber 17th via EMI’s Blue Note Records, sports an album cover that will make any animal lover go awww (see below), and consists of 13 tracks, a few of which feature the writing talents of Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff (also see below).
