The first days of school are trickling in across the country, and you can hear the collective sighs of students sulking into class. Simultaneously, you can hear parents clap en masse. In my nerdy mind, the kids aren’t sad to be going back to school; they’re sad that bedtimes will preclude them from seeing wonderful musical guests on late night talk shows.

For example, those early to rise and early to bed will miss out on Friendly Fires, Matt & Kim, and Aimee Mann. They won’t get to see that Darius Rucker went from a ho-hum Hootie and blossomed into a pretty good country singer. You won’t learn that in class.
