Hüsker Dü’s Grant Hart back at the solo game

On October 6th, ex-Hüsker Dü’ drummer Grant Hart will offer what will be his first solo album in nearly a decade with the release of Hot Wax. Consisting of nine tracks, the effort will feature appearances by members of Godspeed, You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion.

Get the tracklist below. No word on tour dates, but while you’re waiting, you could always visit former bandmate Greg Norton at his Red Wing, Minnesota based restaurant, The Norton’s Restaurant. Thai Curry is only $12 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

And in not as fascinating news, former bandmate Bob Mould will join No Age for a Hüsker Dü tribute set during this year’s ATP New York next month.

  1. Man am I glad to Mr. Hart respond to some turd who probably never even heard of Husker Du until Pitchfork.com came around.

I am excited to hear the new record.

It’s really tough to put into words but I remember the pure epiphany I had uponhearing New Day Rising for the first time (in 1987, a couple years after it’s release). Just that wall of fuzzy treble…wow! I think just my overwhelming emotional connection to that record will make it hard for anything Grant, Bob, or Greg (his food I guess?) could ever do. That’s no slight on them, it’s just, how do improve on perfection that is hard-wired to a beautiful memory - you cannot.

Since I was only 18 when Husker Du broke up I never got to see them. My #1 wish would be for the All Tomorrow Parties Don’t Back Series to have the Huskers play New Day Rising from beginning to end. That’s all. No reunion album. Just a one-off. Ah, we can always dream. I can hear the thudding drums, bubbly bass, and fuzzy treble from hear.

  2. It’s been too fucking long since new Grant Hart music hit. Now re-release his back catalog.
Grant don’t listen to jagoffs like rrrrod. Bob is Awesome, as are you. The Du years were some of the best of my life, but I have enjoyed the music produced by both Bob and Grant. Maybe with any luck on Halloween I will get to hear The Dead Milkmen warn Bob Grant and Greg once again. Grant if you read this, Philly bro. We need an interesting show thorough this town.

  3. cant wait to hear the new album! hopefuly it will follow the good work on good news for modern man. come on grant tour europe.

  4. Come on, Grant - don’t let ignorant toss-pots like rrrrod wind you up! I count myself as a big Husker Du fan who gained real inspiration from both yours and Bob’s lyrics. Really excited to hear about the new album, which, if it’s half as good as Intolerance, will be a belter. Keep the faith.

    Take care, Dude!

  5. LISTEN HERE MOTHERFUCKER.SINCE YOU PROBABLY NEVER SAW HUSKER DU ,I REALLY DON’T THINK YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. I AM FRIENDS WITH NO AGE AND APPARENTLY BOB IS ALSO.IF YOU TAKE A PEEK WAAAY INSIDE THE NO AGE CD PACKAGE YOU CAN SEE A COPY OF “INTOLERANCE” IN A STACK OF TAPES BY ARTISTS THEY DIG.I PLAYED WITH THEM AT SXSW AND THEY ARE FINE PEOPLE. I THINK HIGHLY OF THEM AND I WILL NOT LET YOU INVOLVE THEM IN YOUR PETTY, STUPID BOB VERSUS GRANT BULLSHIT. I ALSO WOULD EXPECT THAT FANS OF MY MUSIC WILL REFRAIN FROM TEASING BOB BY YELLING OUT THE TITLES OF MY SONGS JUST TO BE ASSHOLES.
SINCE YOU ARE NOT EXCITED ABOUT MY SOLO ALBUM I HAVE HAD SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT RELEASING IT. I MEAN, WHATS THE USE OF EVEN TRYING WHEN I HEAR THAT rrrrod WON’T BE EXCITED.FUCK YOU.
    LOVE,
    GRANT HART,CON D’OR RECORDS

  6. umm, Norton’s is Husker Du bassist Greg Norton’s restaurant (hence the name, Norton’s?)

I think news of Mould teaming up with No Age to do Husker Du is Waaay more exciting than a Grant Hart solo album. Heard the other ones, by any chance? But we can hope for the best. At his peak, GH was pretty amazing.
