Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer rumored to tour together

Rumors are like confidence artists at a carnival game booth, they promise a lot but only sometimes deliver.  In a funny way, hype is like that also whereas you are promised a product and it does not meet the standards displayed. There has been one hype recently that surpassed expectations surrounding Death Magnetic, then Slayer blew us away at this year’s Mayhem Festival — now we hear stirring about of the “big four” in thrash touring as one for the first time ever.

Nothing is yet confirmed, but apparently Metallica’s Lars Ulrich has been talking up certain things regarding this mythical creature. Slayer guitarist Kerry King was rumored to be in the grapevine, but he has a small reality check to dispense and some suggestions for Lars’ supposed lineup (via Metal Hammer):

“I’ve heard people referencing Lars. I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars, but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth and, I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than Anthrax and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me.”

While some would gladly take Anthrax over Machine Head (no disrespect King), the tour itself currently resides in imaginations alone for now. Here is to hoping for the ultimate thrash to remember, but always hope for the best and expect the worst until delivered the best.

  1. To me, what they should do to decide the line up is have the frontman of each band walk into a room one at a time, and grab a card from a deck, while some guy watches to make sure they don’t cheat. The highest number is the headliner, and any doubles draw again until an order is decided by the numerical order of the cards from ace to king. And to make it an even better show, they should have it be from 8:00 A.M-3:00 A.M. and two more excellent Thrash bands, Testament and Exodus open up the show for them. They would decide who opens the same way the big four decide their line-up. Here is an idea for the schedule.

    7:30-Doors open
    8:00-Exodus/Testament
    11:00-Exodus/Testament
    2:00-Lowest number drawn
    5:00-Next number up
    8:00-Next number up
    11:00-Highest number
2:00-Special all-star line-up featuring all six bands playing a medley of their best songs as one massive Thrash Anthem.

They have a show every other day so they can get time to relax after their epic medley performance, and tour all fifty states along with other worldwide locations. This is simply a good idea I had, I think we should all come up with similar ideas and hopefully someone “connected” to the band might stumble on our thoughts. Also, if there any other awesome thrash bands from the 80’s I forgot, please list them as possible show-openers too. Keep it Metal guys!

  2. some of these comments show what morons some people are and how little they know about music they claim to love. was machine head one of the big four..from the 80’s? didnt think so…while the other three remained true to their sound.metallica picked up motley crues producer, developed a more commercial look and sound, then they snitched on us to THE MAN and SUED US!!!!!!!! anyone remeber the 5.98 ep? didnt it say “cuz our fans cant afford anything more”? just because they got rich..from us…and toured the world,we didnt, and metallica forgot that.if anyone should be dropped from “the tour” it should be those sellouts…and they should be replaced with exodus or testament…scene veterans…influences…not the influenced…morons…

  3. I find this hard to believe seeings as Dave Mustaine is on bad terms with James and Lars, partially to do with the Some Kind of Monster interview and past events. Not to mention Daves tention with Kerry King.

Although would make for an interesting show, couldnt see metallica headlining though. I’ve seen em about five times and there stage show isnt nearly as good as Megadeth or Slayer.

  4. Everyone should just roll dice or draw cards or something to decide the order and who opens up for who. Something where it’s just purely the luck of the draw.

  5. IF this rumour is True, it would honestly be a dream come true for most thrash speed metal fans.
Its safe to say that all of the above bands deserve a place in a such a tour (including anthrax, in which may not be as technical. But still influential as anything). and if made larger bands like machine head and fear factory etc etc, could play along side such giants.
But i think the aim of this tour would be to plz millions of fans who have waited for such a line up.

most obviously METALLICA would get the headline spot, and anthrax wouldmost likely sit at the bottom.

but im sure fans from all bands would be present aNd enjoy a kickarse show. i know i would.

AND YEAH DAVE MUSTAINE DONT FUCK THE TOUR UP MAN. LOL. IVE SEEN MEGADETH 2WICE, 3 TIMES WOULD BE GREAT , IF JAMES AND LARS PISS YOU OFF, JUST PISS IN THERE DRINKS.

KIDDING , ALL BANDS ARE GREAT

  6. Do it! Do it!.. I think by now since these guys are pushing 40 or more with families, their egos should be somewhat diminished. Besides, who wouldn’t want to see a blockbuster show like this? Anthrax should be on the bill. Period!!!

  7. if they had 2 choose a band id deff want machine head!

  8. look to be honest, megadeth and metallica are rivals we know that, but i think DAVE MUSTAINE is being a baby, when this fight with metallica began, it happend, like 20 yrs ago or somthing, i mean come one get over it. i think megadeth is a great band, i truly do, but i choose metallica, because they got MASTER OF PUPPETS, and i think nobody can beat that.

now slayer has no problem with metallica, but they do say metallica should not be in the ( BIG 4 ) any more, since LOAD and RE-LOAD. but they loved DEATH MAGNETIC, i mean who doesn’t love that album. they said that is the reborn of the old metallica. and said that they should belong back in the BIG 4. those are my favorite’s in the thrash group, but i think ANTHRAX should not be in this tour.

put like TESAMAENT, SLIPKNOT, or MACHINE HEAD, because i think ANTHRAX should not be in the bill.

  9. Hey……I have seen all of them live…anthrax among the living front row orph theater, metallica…damage inc tour…justice for all…black album in the mountains of vermont…Slayer with motorhead in Boston..and numerous other times….megadeath during peace sells tour….ALL kicked arse….but out of all of them SLAYER never changed over the years….south of heaven for me will always be the best death/speed metal album ever created!!!!!!!

  10. But how would the lineup go?

  11. I just wanna know what the lineup would be..

  12. Don’t be an idiot, I Hate Idiots, some people may not like slayer or anthrax, and as for selling out, real musicians will change styles occasionally because there musicians not just metal heads, don’t be ignorant. As for me, i could personally see this happening and being awesome!!!

  13. just the rumor of metallica and megadeth on the same line for the only the second time get’s me all reved up but surely megadeth are going to do an endgame tour though ?

  14. Who’s the idiot (Tony) that said Slayer would be wasted space? Do a reality check. Slayer is the only thrash 4 band that didn’t sell out! They stayed true to their name and music and continue to kick ass!!!!

  15. I actually had the opportunity to speak to Dave Mustaine about the possibility of a Metallica/Megadeth bill many years ago and his response was “it has happened you just live in the wrong country”. Apparantly the two groups have played on the same bill in Europe. As I am now approching 40 I would still love to see that show come to America. I hope this comes to fruition and is not merely just an idea.

  16. Metallica and Megadeth on the same bill would be awesome Slayer and Anthrax would be wasted space….

  17. Mustaine and the Metallica boys have generally kept a distance, but I don’t think such a small (and ancient) rivalry would prevent this event if in fact said event is planned out.

  18. I thought Mustaine and Metallica didn’t get along. Will this mean the possibility of one-off reunion performances during the tour????

Guess I just jumped the gun on that dream.
