The Swell Season offers Strict Joy on the road

In support of the October 27th release of Strict Joy, the duo of Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard, aka The Swell Season, have mapped out an extensive global trek. The three month is composed of three legs, with North America getting in on the fun first during the month of November. After that, it’s on to the U.K. in January and the rest of Europe in February.

 1. My sister and I saw the show last night in Philly and it was an absolutely awesome experience (even though the couple sitting in front of us were making out shamelessly throughout, ugh). Glen Hansard’s energy completely fills the room–he radiates. Marketa is obviously painfully shy but is at home behind the piano and her harmonies are perfect, and she doesn’t mind handing over the limelight to Hansard who is not only happy to have it, but grabs it with two hands. They do a rockin’ version of “Low Rising” from the new album, which glides nicely into a short nod to Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing.” My favorite was a song-in-progress that didn’t have a name yet and they claimed that last night was only their third night playing it live. It was about building a house and you know, losing everything to figure out what you really want. Hansard had the audience singing along the entire show and overall, it was a joyful, intimate experience that makes me excited for the future endeavors of The Swell Season. Male-female vocal and musical collaboration like this doesn’t come along too often.

 2. Wow. This album is absolutely beautiful. I REALLY hope you guys review it!

 3. If only they had a tour date closer than 9 hours away from the Carolina’s. One of my favorite bands of all time and my favorite movie of all time.

 4. Why no NYC dates?!?!?!

 5. Album was delayed to 27 October, but that kinda really old news…

 6. Why does no one ever set foot in Vegas?!

 7. This is going to be magical. Clowes Hall is the best sounding venue I’ve ever set foot in.

 8. Ahh - can’t wait for this one. After seeing “Once”, I have to see these guys perform live.
