Update: Pavement reunion really confirmed!

If you’re one of those who finds news of Pavement’s reunion too good to be true and are waiting for a rep from the band to come out and completely blow up the report that September 21, 2010 will be the days of all days, we got news for you.

Worry no more… the reunion has now been confirmed by the band!

It’s been a long time coming,” guitarist Scott Kannberg said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “I think in the back of our minds, we always thought we’d do something again. But we never really talked about it until the last couple of months. It’s come together fast.”

He went on: “Steve [Malkmus] and I just had a conversation on the phone, and we’d never talked about it before at all. We’ve talked over the years, but the subject never came up. Then our agent asked us about these New York shows, so we went around to everybody in the band, and they said, ‘Yeah, the time is right If everybody’s ready to do it, then we’ll do it and see what happens.’ There was no real impetus — it just kind of happened naturally.”

So far, according to Kannberg, the only confirmed date is the aforementioned Central Park show on September 21, 2010. However, he did not rule out the possibility of more dates, nor an appearance at this year’s Coachella. “Anything that happens in the future is in the future,” he explained.

And the future has never looked so grand. T-minus 369 days!

Update: Tickets go on sale tomorrow! A pre-sale begins at 10:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 18, 2009 (password is ZOWEE), while general on-sale is slated for 10:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 25, 2009. Ticketmaster will be the outlet.

Update, Redux: There will be a tour in 2010. All over this fine globe.

No, Alex. That would be Paul Westerberg at the mic, after taking a puff from his cigarette, saying, “Well, ol’ Slim, Chris, Tommy and I decided to, y’know, let the shit hit the fan again. We’re doing Lollapalooza.”

  5. Don’t forget about the world tour in 2010.

  6. Wow, what great news!
