Check Out: Julian Casablancas’ “11th Dimension”
Back in July, we told you that The Strokes‘ own Julian Casablancas was readying his debut solo album, Phrazes for the Young, which is still due out October 20th. Save for an over the top preview, however, we haven’t heard much. Now, two months later, Mr. Casablancas returns with, well, one hell of a song.
Titled “11th Dimenson”, the spacey-80’s throwback is fun, frisky, and quite adventurous. It shifts, it rattles, and it glides. Even if he’s subdued by synthesizers and digital bass-beats, Casablancas sounds as natural as ever. When he softly wails, “Forgive them, even if they are not sorry,” you can’t help but picture him dangling from the microphone in his trademark pose. It’s not too far from The Strokes, either. Try and picture the New York quintet in the late ’70s, which shouldn’t be too hard (have you seen their videos?), attempting to embrace the New Wave of early 80’s culture. Voila! You’re in the “11th Dimension”.
But really, if the guy keeps putting stuff out like this, that never-ending slog towards the Strokes’ fourth studio effort will be paved in decadence and enjoyed with dancing. Kudos, Casablancas. Kudos. Now, how about that mini-tour?

i like this song but it just makes me want to have a new strokes album that much more.
