Live Nation possibly comes up with a good idea, announces Passport

See, kids. Live Nation isn’t all evil.

The company has announced plans for an all-inclusive new program called the “Live Nation Club Passport”. The promotion basically works like this (via Rolling Stone): For a one time fee of $49.99, concert goers will receive a pass, or “Passport,” that will enable them to “see every show at Live Nation clubs in their city for the rest of the year, subject to availability.”

Of course, there’s a catch. Note the word “availability” above. Say for example that the concert you’d like to attend using your newly acquired “Passport” is soldout. Well, then, to put it simply, you’re shit out of luck.

But for all shows under the Live Nation banner that aren’t sold out, you’re golden. After you pick up your “Passport,” log on to livenation.com/passport each Monday to see a list of available shows and reserve your ticket. There will be no other costs associated… not even service fees!

And while we can’t say Springsteen will be taking part, we do know the following venues will be:

Los Angeles, CA @ Avalon
Cincinnati, OH @ Bogart’s
Indianapolis, IN @ Egyptian Room at the Murat Theatre
Denver, CO @ The Fillmore Auditorium
Charlotte, NC @ The Fillmore Charlotte
Miami Beach, FL @ The Fillmore Miami Beach
New York, NY @ The Fillmore NY at Irving Plaza
San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
Detroit, MI @ The Fillmore Detroit
New York, NY @ Gramercy Theatre

  • This is a great idea but most of the shows they are doing this for at HOB in Orlando suck.

  • Basically what this means is that for 50 bucks a year, you can see a ton of less popular shows. If something is awesome, then you do what you normally do. But in the meantime, on a regular week, you can catch some stuff you wouldn’t normally go to. Juliette Lewis, Bowling for Soup, Chevelle or Blues Travelers might not be whatever you consider “relevant”, but some people just like going to shows. This would allow them to go to a lot of them for hardly any money.

  • The concept is fantastic! I agree the idea needs a lot of polishing and I would never get a passport with the deal they have now, I’m actually really surprised/disappointed there are no Baltimore or D.C. venues. But, I’m so ready to see what happens. What I’m excited about is now the idea is out there and all that has to be done is make it more appealing/beneficial to the true concert-goers. If this passport idea works out the way I hope it does, my friends and I could be saving hundreds of dollars each year!

  • It seemed like a good idea at first before I saw the actual venues. Screw that.

  • i think it’s a shitty idea. you’ll never benefit from this offer as most smaller shows sell out, or at least they do here in toronto.

  • actually it’s a shit idea unless you are in a good city….

    1) it’s only for select shows and their not congruent throughout. Orlando’s, Chicago’s and New York’s list of shows sucks while some cities are amazing (Phillie). you’re paying for a bunch of washed up acts, or other shows they can’t sell. When was Juliette Lewis, Bowling for Soup, Chevelle, or Blues Traveler relevant (or good for that matter)?

    2) It doesn’t guarantee you a ticket to any show. If the show sells out, you are SOL….
