Langerado Music Festival gone for good?

Langerado Music Festival gone for good?

After an unsuccessful move and eventual cancellation in 2009, there was hope that the Florida based music festival known as Langerado would return renewed, recharged, and relocated — there was discussion of moving the festival back to Seminole Big Cypress Indian Reservation — in 2010.

However, as we now know, via a must read article appearing on Metromix South Florida in which Dan Sweeney sits down with Langerado founder Ethan Schwartz to discuss the future, a return doesn’t appear likely…

Over beers at Davie’s Ye Olde Falcon Pub, Schwartz put to rest rumors of a 2010 Langerado (to be held out in the Everglades again, according to the Internet grapevine), saying that the festival was “probably” gone for good. While he insisted that he isn’t done promoting and producing shows in South Florida, he quickly added that he’d like to do shows all over the state as well as his new home state, which, to these jaded ears, sounded suspiciously like he’d be bringing bands to, say, Atlanta, Orlando or Tampa, rather than down here.

An official announcement has yet to be made, however, the festival’s current website offers no plans for 2010.

Now, with all this being said, Langerado’s absence does not mean the state of Florida won’t have any music festivals. The aptly titled punk themed festival known as The Fest takes place in Gainesville over Halloween weekend, the indie-friendly ANTI*POP Music Festival and jam oriented Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival both go down in mid-November, in Orlando and Live Oak respectively, and a brand new event titled Miami Music Festival will hit, you guessed it, Miami in mid-December. What’s more, 2010 will see the return of the Harvest of Hope Festival, Winter Music Conference, Ultra Music Festival, Sunfest, and Wanee Music Festival. Oh, and maybe Bang!?

See, it’s not all that bad. Still, R.I.P. Langerado.

    & more

  2. This is terrible, I hope Ethan Schwartz will remember the great success the last Langerado had and consider bringing it back in that form. It was the next up and coming fest!! How did it go from having its best year and being rated one of the best festivals in the nation, too canceling all together?

  3. HOH was so much fun last year can’t wait til the next one.

  4. I am a music lover. I like reading blogs that give importance to music.

  5. sos, I agree with you, but the middle and bottom of the lineup so made up for it. I would have been there with bells on…

  6. It was no the lineup that killed Langerado it was the move to Miami. Hotel prices there are way to expensive. They should have had the show in markam park like in years past

  7. This is so depressing. As if the alternative rock music scene down here wasn’t bad enough, now no more Langerado. There’s no other way I would have seen Band of Horses, Hold Steady, Blitzen Trapper, Built to Spill or a bunch of others without Langerado. None of the above have come back down here since they played L. Very disappointing.

  8. in regards to phish shows in hampton the same weekend: let’s not forget that the lineup for 2009 langerado was horrid from a headliner standpoint. it lacked any real headliners (death cab for cutie, snoop, and thievery… i mean really?).. i had hotel reservations and was set for a weekend in the sun with some bands mixed in, felt more like a weekend away that i would coincide with the festival as it stood with its soft lineup.

  9. I’d like to see if HoH can book any national acts in 2010 without having Langerado as a lead in.

  10. I can’t help but wonder if Phish never re-united, perhaps Langerado 2009 kicks off?

I’ve been to dozens of different music festivals and Langerado was one of the best. I attended in 2007 & 2008 and Langerado at Big Cypress was one of my favorite festy experiences of all time.

  11. yeah, it’s bad, b/c Langerado brought a great mix of solid jam bands and up and coming indie artists. NO other festival listed above did that. It’s a real shame. They should have just done the damn thing in Miami, taken their hit and moved it back to Cypress or even back to Sunrise….

damn what a downer. Thanks for abandoning the scene Ethan. You may as well change South Florida jams to something else….

  12. Lets not kid ourselves, Bang has been dead for awhile.

Hopefully Harvest of Hope will bring the goods this year.
