Unlike an acoustic set (which will be happening for the first time this year), it is tradition for Phish to play a cover album set during its hosted music festivals, with past selections including The Beatles’ White Album, The Velvet Underground’s Loaded, Talking Heads’ Remain in Light, and The Who’s Quadrophenia.
As for what’s on tap for the forthcoming Phish Festival 8? Well, based on the album covers currently displayed on Phish’s website, Trey Anastasio and Co. will choose from quite the extensive and eclectic list. After all, how else would you explain a list that sports almost 100 names and features names like Led Zeppelin’s IV, Arcade Fire’s Funeral, David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular, Pavement’s Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, Prince’s Purple Rain, and, wait for it… Radiohead’s Kid A.
No word on when the list will be narrowed down to just one, but once it is, we’ll let you know.
TAGGED AS: Phish, Phish 2009 Festival
Campers are on site and schedules have been given out and you guys don’t have ONE SOURCE for information or just too lazy to report on this?

Is it just me, or does the guitar the Springsteen is holding looks just like Trey’s Guitar?
The Wall
Its gonna be MJ’s Thriller. Southern Cali… He just died… its ment to be.

Does it really matter? Its like calling shit, shite, it’s all the same.
Oracular Spectacular, not Oracle Spectacular.
That said Nickels on the dime would be insane! The Band’s self titled would be amazing too.
Correction the most absurd item is MGMT, what the hell?
Holy shit, forget that. COME ON PILGRIM IS ON THE LIST!
The most interesting would be Phrenology by the Roots. But I would LOVE to hear Phish do Marquee Moon by Television. I think them doing the title track would sound awesome.
Ramones would be cool, too.
Word on the Phish scene is a Led Zeppelin album, seeing as they’ve already done the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, the Talking Head and Pink Floyd, it’d be a safe bet to eliminate those from that list.
Close Alex,
Phish plays a cover album on Halloween as a musical costume. This is the first time that a Phish Festival has been over Halloween weekend.
the most absurd item on that list was Rage Against The Machine’s “Evil Empire”.
That’d be something right there.
