In an interview with The Quietus (via NME), Warren Ellis said the new album has basically been done for a few weeks save for the tracklist and some last minute technical touch ups. Ellis remarked that the album would be a marked change from the savage simplicity of the first record and instead the band’s sound will be much more psychedelic.
“It’s kind of like stoner rock meets Sly Stone via Amon Duul,” Ellis said. “Nick’s got a different thing going on with the lyrics than he would have from the Bad Seeds. Less sex? I wouldn’t say that.”
The album was originally scheduled for release in early 2009, but clearly complications arose. The as-yet-untitled album should now drop some time in 2010. Those looking for some Cave and Ellis goodness only have to wait till September 22nd with the release of their piece de cinema entitled White Lunar. Stay tuned for any news of a tour in support of the new material.
