So, what’s next for U2?

So, what’s next for U2?

Good question, considering that between the release of No Line on the Horizon, the creation of the claw, a global 360 tour, and an expanded reissue of The Unforgettable Fire, Bono and Co. have basically done all there is to do. It’s such a good question in fact that Rolling Stone asked it in a recent interview with the band… and got the following tidbit:

U2 is full steam ahead on its next studio album. It’s titled Songs of Ascent and, according to the band, will be out sooner rather than later — “I don’t think we’ll have over three years or whatever it was between the last two records,” explained The Edge.

As for what to expect? Larry Mullen promises a mix of “a few different things,” with one of those things, at least if Bono gets his wish (and he always does!), being a “hit” song.

“I would like to have one of our songs on the pop charts,” the U2 frontman said. “It’s my only disappointment [with No Line on the Horizon]. People love, love the album it’s had rave reviews, not just in the U.S., but all over the world. But I would like a few pop songs on it. So I would like, even on Songs of Ascent, songs that have a shot at that. I would like to come back with a new single in the spring — “Every Breaking Wave” was Jimmy Iovine’s favorite song, and lots of people got upset when we took that off.

So, to recap, new U2 album, titled Songs of Ascent, will be out soon and will include a hit song (hopefully). Add in the fact the 360 tour looks like it will never end (see below) and that previously reported Spider-Man musical, it certainly looks like they’ll be no shortage of U2 headlines in the months ahead. And, maybe then, they’ll finally start to make a profit

  1. As if putting American in captions was grammatically correct, I am from New York and you are a total dick, and I am gathering by the sound of it, love the cock!!!!!

  2. Actually if you wrote in proper English (American?), maybe neighbor would understand that’s what you meant. But, of course, residing in Virginia does have few merits.

  3. Read the post jack off, i worked, and i said if i paid….

  4. if you paid mucho bucks, why would leave early? I can understand leaving early if you worked the show, can be tiring. I saw the first night in MA, show was amazing. Traffic wasn’t, i dont blame you for leaving early. From start to finish the show is long and the stage does some cool things. If you really want to know when the best time to leave, the last two songs are always the same if you want to get a head start. Unless you have a soft spot for with or without you and moment of surrender, i will probablly finish the whole show at the rose bowl.

  5. Worked the U2 show last night night in Charlottesville VA, got off about a half hour intot he set and got to watch the rest of the set. Some things were pretty cool. Bono didn’t shut the fuck up though, and i have seen them before and I expected it but it was worse than ever. The main set was only an hour? I don’t know how long the encore was because I wanted to beat traffic but if had paid the mucho bucks i heard people paid for good seats, I’d be pissed.
