Update: Vampire Weekend debuts new song, announces west coast tour
As it turns out, that “something” which Vampire Weekend started counting down this morning is indeed a brand new selection from the band’s forthcoming studio album, Contra. It’s the LP’s opening track “Horchata” and hears the band picking up right where they left off. The feeling is light and pleasant, the sounds are complex and diverse. The instrumentation is impressive (there’s a string orchestra for pete’s sake!) and the vocals are, as always, captivating. And most importantly, what other song will you hear Horchatas mentioned?
Basically, it’s everything one would have hoped for and expected from Vampire Weekend. Fears of a sophomore slump? Please! Vampire Weekend appears set to offer another gem.
But that’s not all we have to report to you. As Pitchfork reports, Vampire Weekend has also dropped dates for a two-week California venture for next month. “Impromptu events” are also being planned, as are flights to Canada, England, Japan, and Australia. Get the complete list of VW’s confirmed tour dates below.
Contra is due out January 12 on XL.

ohh my god. they aren’t coming to brisbane or anything..?
and its 18+!
Visalia? Lafayette? Either these guys are working in some groupies still living at home or they’re aiming very, very low (which, by the sounds of this song…may very well be the case). At least in Bakersfield they’ll be able to have a decent burrito with that “horchata.” Wow….could these ivy leaguers be having a case of the dumdums?
In love with this song, no sophomore slump for these guys.
Talking Heads?
ZZzzzZZzzzzzzZzz…
I am digging the new song.
Really hoping for a December/January US tour!
