Check Out: Echo & The Bunnymen’s “Think I Need It Too”
A couple of weeks back, we dished out all the goods on the upcoming tour from Echo & the Bunnymen — and yeah, it all looks good. Run through performances of Ocean Rain? Full on orchestra? Intimate venues? What else could you ask for, right? Well, how about a new album? Check. Okay, how about a new single?
That brings us to today. In anticipation of The Fountain, the group’s new studio effort due out October 12th, the Bunnymen have unveiled the first single. Titled “Think I Need It Too”, the moody, romantic driver brings some heart-pacing bass, a few jangly guitars, and one hell of a catchy sing-a-long chorus (”Whatever you want/Whatever you need/I think I need it too”). There’s something very nostalgic about the track, and it might have to do with Ian McCulloch’s ’80s-like vocals that recall past acts Dramarama or The Church. But really, at its core, it’s a feel good song, and a pretty good harbinger of things to come.
Sigh, between this and Bad Lieutenant, it’s easy to be happy lately.

toronto has them playing ocean rain with an orchestra, hence the expense.
i don’t think that they are doing this on every date.
I just listened to the track after work. It’s a pretty great song, and I couldn’t help but think how similar his vocals are to Chris Martin’s raspiness. Of course, Ian’s vocals prevail in my eyes … er … ears.
Me, too! Can’t wait to see them at the Keswick in Philly Nov. 20! They rocked at All Points West this summer.
Well, if $20 admission is expensive - and I reference the Black Cat in DC - then I’m rich as fuck!
Yeah, they are a bit pricey, and I saw them at SXSW for free, where they played pretty much every tune I’d want to hear, including this new single. So I’m not sure I’ll be at these dates, unfortunately — though if the orchestra came to Chicago, I’d be there in a heart beat.
Not sure they could fit that in the Metro though. Haha.
echo tix are not cheap, but they are well worth it.
I mean, Roffman!
Outstanding. Thanks for clearing that up, Hoffman. I might examine ticket prices to do some final determining though.
Zoe, the choice is simple… Echo.
Okay now I am torn between seeing The Swell Season or Echo in DC that month. Both are great, but I pick one gig a month to attend now (recession = small pockets). Grr!
i can’t wait to see echo on the 20th!
