Watch: Regina Spektor dazzles Saturday Night Live

Just hours after sitting down with us to discuss a wide range of topics, the lovely Regina Spektor took to Saturday Night Live to serve as the musical guest for the October 10th, Drew Barrymore-hosted edition of the program. The Russian born singer/songwriter, backed by a string accompaniment, performed two tracks from the recently released Far, “Eet” and “The Calculation”, and not surprising, the result was utterly fantastic. But don’t let us tell you, check it out for yourself below (via TAP).

But seriously, when’s the latest time someone sounded so natural from Studio 8H? Surely not Bono.

  1. Try not to tear a girl apart so much. At least she didn’t pull an Ashley Simpson. I won passes to see her play in a recording studio before her actual show 2 1/2 years ago. Besides the radio/studio employees there were maybe 15 of us sitting on the floor while she played. She walked out with her fly down and realized it as she started playing. Maybe it broke the nervousness but it was WAY better than any of her CD’s or live performances I’ve heard. I’ve been listening to her for years, quite a bit longer than anyone knew who she was. I have the extreme respect, she is far more than just a talented radio friendly artist.

  2. Eet wasn’t her best, but I was blown away during the Calculation

  3. I’ve enjoyed her since her first recordings I’ve heard her perform live on many occasions. Her performance this past Saturday was poor. She sang off-key, demonstrated limited range, and appeared uncomfortable, Of course, she is an interesting vocalist - but was clearly not on her game.

  4. Yeah, I didn’t think her live performance was the best, she sounded super nervous. I went to the SNL studios to watch the dress rehearsal and she sang perfectly then. It’s a bit of a shame cos she could have gained so many new fans.

But, Radio City was obviously orgasmic.

  5. i’ve seen her in person and she was wonderful. her performance on the 1st SNL song was surprisingly bad.

  6. Regina is amazing. I’ve seen her perform many times, and listened extensively to everything she’s ever recorded - I know what she’s capable of. After seeing her on SNL, I was concerned that she was either sick or needed to take a break from touring and give her voice a serious rest. Fortunately, at last night’s show at Radio City, she gave a stunning performance. Her voice was not at full force like it was at the Beacon show in June, but she made it work nonetheless.

  7. I saw Regina Spektor in concert at the Electric Factory and she was Fantastic!!! She is an incredible artist and person giving thanks to the audience after each song. I love and adore her REAL talent. Which is totally lacking within our mainstream flow, if you KNOW what i mean? Dont give a real ARTIST hate give her LOVE for being herself, REAL:)

  8. I do know her style and she’s not usually way off key… which she was three times in that first song. I found it difficult to listen to. And strange, because she has extensive voice training and it usually shows.

  9. OMG! Regina was freaking amazing.
If you thought her performance was “terrible” and “embarassing” you obviously do not know Regina Spektor’s style. She’s an amazing and talented woman.
    Love you Regina.

  10. In the first song she sounded nervous, butin the second song she sounded fantastic. And I’d never even heard of her before.

  11. Are you serious? Her performance on SNL was terrible…it was embarassing to watch.

  12. She is incredible…seriously flawless vocals.

  13. I loved the performance, but it seems like she may have been a bit nervous–her voice was a bit quavery and off-key. She hit her stride during “The Calculation,” though.

  14. She’s been backed by strings all tour. Seriously when I saw her in September in Chicago it was mindblowing.
