Peter Gabriel maybe covers Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver on new album

By Alex Young on October 29th, 2009 in News

Here’s something that sounds incredibly cool if it does indeed prove to be true: Peter Gabriel’s next record will apparently be a covers album that features takes on the likes of Radiohead, Arcade Fire, The Kinks, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Bon Iver, Elbow, Neil Young, and Lou Reed. The alleged album is titled Scratch My Back and is due out next spring. Read all about it at TwentyFourBit.

  • Yes, it’ll be an orchestral album covering most of those guys (not the Kinks, unfortunately) and a few more: The Magnetic Fields, Regina Spektor, Randy Newman and Paul Simon. It’s apparently part of a “song swap” project where Peter covers 12 artists on one album (“Scratch My Back”), and the 12 artists cover him on a second album (“I’ll Scratch Yours”). Sounds brilliant!

  • I think the prospects of Bon Iver being covered by Peter Gabriel make the story. That is why it was included in the headline. :)

  • Why would you include Bon Iver in the headline and leave out Bowie, Lou Reed, Talking Heads and The Kinks? This is great news and I almost missed them because of the headline! Maybe I’m a little older for you demographic I guess but anyways. Thanks for the info!

  • Awesome!

I’ve been hearing about this one for a long time. His cover of Magnetic Field’s book of love was released on a soundtrack not too long ago and it’s phenomenal.

Hopefully the next original album won’t be far behind.
