Radiohead’s Nigel Godrich launches new website

Somewhere between Thom Yorke’s new musical endeavors and the supposed recording of band’s next studio album, longtime Radiohead collaborator/producer/sixth member Nigel Godrich recently found time to launch a brand new website (via Ultra8201). And a rather unique one at that.

As Godrich’s “About” section explains, the website is called “From the Basement” and is “a sort of music show / labour of love produced by a small group of dedicated individuals.” In other words, the website is the next component of the musician’s podcast turned television program of the same name, basically featuring high-definition video footage of some of your favorite acts, including RADIOHEAD!!!!, performing some of your favorite songs, like “Reckoner”!!!

As Godrich goes on to note, “The whole emphasis of the show is about being artist friendly and making our bands as comfortable as possible so that they can give great performances without the usual agony of TV promo which everyone has to do but no one seems to enjoy.”

“My own personal goal is that in the future some of these performances might be seen as the truest representation of the state of their artists work, captured in a way that lets their talents speak without the interference of presenters, or audiences,” he adds.

Sounds like something we can all get behind, especially considering that in addition to Radiohead performing “Reckoner”, the website also already features offerings by The White Stripes, Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, The Shins, Queens of the Stone Age, Jarvis Cocker, Beck, and Iggy and the Stooges.

Now that you’re salivating, have at it. Might we recommend a first viewing? The White Stripes’ performance of “Blue Orchid / Party of Special Things to Do” is as Rivers would say, pretty rad.

  4. This isn’t exactly news, this website has been around for about 3 years. But to be fair, Nigel did revamp the website to contain more content in July

  5. My favorite so far is Gnarls Barkley doing Crazy. Very different than the on record version, but really amazing.
