Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke plots solo album

Back in July, we told you about the uncertain future of Britain’s Bloc Party. And while their recent tour-ending show at the Reading Rivermead Centre (where they promised shows for years to come after a short break) has us excited, there’s still time to kill before more releases. Enter frontman Kele Okereke’s future solo album.

According to NME, producer Hudson Mohawke recently told BBC Radio 1xtra that he is working with Okereke on an album. Other than that news flash, Mr. Mohawke had few other details to share.

“It hasn’t been finalised yet, but I’m doing a bit of stuff for Kele from Bloc Party’s solo album,” Mohawke said. “He’s doing a record with one of the guys from Spank Rock.”

With your feelings of abandonment surely unconquered with such minimal details, we’ll keep you in the loop regarding what’s sure to be a big solo effort.

  • I’ve been really getting to know how Bloc Party sounds if you compare all 3 of their studio releases and there is, of course, a differential sound of all the tracks on each record. I have to give it to Kele because most of his lyrics are really good and just the way his voice is matches the guy but are also meaningful and I suppose it contains love if you read the lyrics. I am bummed out that they’re on hiatus but just as I seen that he’s working on a solo album, that’s pretty exciting to be informed about and I know it’s gonna be great! P.S. What is the huge ridiculous comments about Kele being homosexual, I mean come on, seriously? Every one is not all the same

  • Every single one of their albums are fantastic, whether they are doing a more techno approach or their original stuff. Stop hating. Bands grow and so does their sound. If you dont like Bloc Party then why are you writing on a blog about Kele? ouch

  • I’m excited; he’s not straying from Bloc Party, he’s just doing his thing while they’re on hiatus. He has a right to make music if the other guys want a break. And if he wants to have a different sound than silent alarm, that’s cool. Artists have to change their sound and grow.

  • Just because he’s the front man doesn’t mean he dictates the bands sound.

  • well i disagree with the other two, i can’t wait! i love bloc party, and i think it’s a shame that he’s straying away from them a bit, but i still think his album will be amazing : )

  • and you know his album will be awful too, bloc party was so good until he took it in the more bad dance rock area.
