MGMT rejects Jay-Z collaboration

Jay-Z collaborates with many different high-profile musicians, such as U2, Kanye & Rihanna, Drake, Alicia Keys (x2!), and Regina Spektor (maybe?). However, as it turns out, one act did turn down Hova’s request.

In a recent interview with Gotham Magazine (via MSNBC), the rapper revealed that he had reached out to fellow Brooklynites MGMT in hopes of collaborating on a track for the recently released The Blueprint 3. But as Jay-Z explained, despite rumors to the contrary, “MGMT turned me down.” Perhaps they’re too busy with their own new album… or are Phillies fans.

Either way, at least that’s two people you won’t have to fight with to score tickets to Jay-Z’s newly announced U.S. tour. Tickets go on sale starting Friday, November 13th (pre-sales start on the 10th) via Ticketmaster.com.

  1. MGMT can do whatever the hell they want. Just because they don’t want to collaborate musically with Jay-Z doesn’t mean it’s anything personal against him, or that they’re being arrogant. If I were even a semi-successful musician, I probably wouldn’t collaborate with Jay-Z, simply because we don’t share the same musical vision. There’s nothing wrong with their choice.

  2. jayz is as overrated as his wife. plus his face looks like a can af smashed assholes.
mgmt don’t want to collaborate with him….so what? it’s their choice and to be honest, i am glad that they said no.

  3. In a couple of years when they are thrown on the indie music scrap heap, they will hope Jay-Z gives them the time of day. Ego works wonders.

  4. jay z could buy their record company, treu i bet. oh well, im sure some random dj will remix his vocals into one of their songs. and i agree they suck live. i was never as interested in them as my gf is. couple of pretty good songs, but he sounds so whiny live. like a fifteen year old hitting puberty while trying to sing, i digress…

  5. Am I the only one slightly disappointed? One of the few high profile collabs that would’ve been interesting if you ask me.

  6. its ok i have a feeling mgmt’s run might come to a halt soon, there awful live

  7. jayz is a bore. he and beyonce need crack habits.

  8. Good for you MGMT! Bout time someone said “No” to the hip hop/collaberation BS. Wish Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun would have felt the same way and not sold out like that.

  9. Wow MGMT…. Getting a little cocky…. Your cd stuff is not that bad but you do not have any energy in your live performance ever since you got a band behind you… Bring back the days of the Ipod prop and just the two kids sitting up there and singing with loop tracks…
