Aerosmith “didn’t break up,” but is looking for a new singer

With every passing day, the drama surrounding the life and times of Aerosmith gets more and more compelling. After all, just a day after we told you that frontman Steven Tyler quit the band in favor of a solo career following a Twitter war with guitarist Joe Perry (ok, so that’s not exactly true, but it went something like that!), comes word that the band has not broken up, but is currently looking for Tyler’s replacement.

These latest pieces of news came Monday, following Perry’s revelation that Tyler had left the band. On Monday night, Perry wrote on his Twitter that “Aerosmith is definitely not breaking up” and is instead “positively looking for a new singer to work with.”

In an interview with WPLR (New Haven, CT 99.1) yesterday, drummer Joey Kramer further emphasized the fact that the band is not breaking up by saying, “No, the band didn’t break up.”

Now that we got that covered, how’s this little piece of info: According to Showbiz411 (via TDS), sources close to Tyler say he is “in terrible trouble” and fear for his life.

Pople who know the deal with Tyler say two things are contributing to his downfall: much loathed girlfriend Erin Brady and newish best pal, Justin Murdock, 35, heir to the Dole Pineapple fortune. Friends say Murdock, who’s been photographed going into nightclubs with Tyler, is helping the historically drug addicted singer live on the Pineapple Express by allowing him to party hard.

In case you are wondering, Pineapple Express = the following…

Until next time, this has been As The World Turns: Aerosmith Edition.

  1. These guys need each other!!! There is a chemistry when they are together… The should know better! Didn’t they learn anything in 1980-84… Take a break, eat your caviar, enjoy your travel, come back rested! Let Joe spin wheels…if that’s what it takes!
Then focus on being blessed Rockers again! Ya, I am sure it gets tiresome, but hey…wake up every morning and live like I do.. You’ll be happy to Come Together again!
Make you money, entertain your fans, live the rest of your career on a high note, not in turmoil. Joe, Steven smarten-up before your fans get sick of this drama!

  3. Let me say this, I have been in the music business on and off for 20 years. I’ve been saying for a long time that Areosmith is one of the most successfull rock and roll bands of all time. Maybe even the MOST successfull band of all time.

Up until the last few years not only was Aerosmith still packing arenas, they were still selling CD’s. Now the CD numbers are going down and by down I mean Honkin on Bobo only went Gold, but they’re still packing arenas around the word.

If someone can give me a band with over 21 top 40 hits, still selling CD’s and filling venues since 1971, you let me know.

Think about your answers because there are a lot of bands still together like the Stones and The Who, but they don’t have charting hits anymore and haven’t for many years. This would count as well for people like McCartney, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) all still around but are lacking in one the above catigories.

  4. Aerosmith have been on extended life-support for almost 30 years… they were a 2nd tier band back in the 70’s (ironically, their most fertile period) and while I enjoy many of their hits, they’re like an older Bon Jovi - no one asked them to stay, but they did anyway. Long after they should have folded up their tents - or (God forbid) evolved into something still relevent - they’re heading into a soap-opera fade-out that would make Spinal Tap blush. Say it ain’t so, Joe!

  5. Well I wouldn’t say Tyler is Aerosmith, but Tyler/Perry are the same deal as Axl/Slash being the gunners. Duos working together to create rock in it’s best incarcerations.

but hey, maybe they’ll get Weiland or some crap. It won’t work.

  6. I saw Aerosmith with opener act The Paul Collins Beat in 1981. This version of Aerosmith was more or less the “Steven Tyler” Aerosmith because the original guitar players Brad Whitford and Joe Perry were subbed by Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo. I believe Joe Perry was doing his own solo thing with The Joe Perry Project. During that concert, I honestly enjoyed The Paul Collins Beat and their guitar player more than that half-baked version of Aerosmith, mainly because guitarist Joe Perry was nowhere to be found. Regardless, this concert showed me how important Steven Tyler is to the band, just as Steven Tyler is neccessary. His vocals are a HUGE party of the equation. Take away Steven Tyler’s voice and it’s hard to say if the music would be the same. Boston was able to replace their lead singer after he passed away a few years ago. Journey has again replaced their singer a few times, most recently with a much younger man who sounds alot like Steve Perry on all the songs. Nonetheless, the best solution may be for Aerosmith to go on hiatus until Steven Tyler can complete an effective rehab program which could last up to a year or more.

  7. No Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. He is Aerosmith.

  8. They will never be able to successfully replace Steven Tyler. Hi is 90% of the Aerosmith sound. They should just save themselves the trouble and just take a year or two off.

  9. Steven “Aerosmith” Tyler. Enough said.

  10. Get A Grip is one bad ass album!

  11. No way, Captain Asshole. Then they’d never have released Get A Grip, hands down one of the best albums of the ’90s. Sorry, but true.

  12. Aerosmith should have cut the shit 20 years ago.

  13. Cant replace him thats thats. Let him do a solo, comeback for 40th year with new album and last tour the end. Dont just go out like this boys, loooking for a singer for what to play in your house no one will show man I dig jp one of the best ever rocker but no tyler no show!

  14. No one can replace Steven Tyler.
