Jawbox T.V. reunion may lead to first tour since 1997

In case you haven’t heard, the post-punk outfit Jawbox is reuniting after 12 years away from the game for an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on December 8th.  And now, not surprisingly, the band is also considering an extension of its reunion into a full-blown tour.

“I’d love to,” bassist Kim Coletta told Billboard in a newly published interview. “It would be the coolest thing in the world.”

Coletta went on to explain that the Fallon performance will be “a safe way of seeing if it’s still fun to play together, or get back together. It’s an easy way to test the waters. I can’t say whether it’s going to lead to a full-length show or any touring, but we’ll see. We’re taking it one step at a time.”

Jawbox is reuniting on Fallon to promote the reissue of its 1994 album, For Your Own Special Sweetheart. The re-release, due to hit shelves Nov. 24th, will include three additional tracks from the Savory +3 EP, also released in ‘94. Independent punk label Dischord Records approached Jawbox with the idea for a remaster, giving the band a chance to clean up its sound.

“We’re really proud of that record, but there’s a lot of low-end,” Coletta noted. “So we’re really pleased with the way it sounds now — it’s just a much better sounding record.”

  1. Hmmm… Billboard interview is more recent though.

  2. Yeah, J Robbins ruled out a reunion in this interview: http://www.buzzgrinder.com/2009/jawbox-no-reunion/

“It seems like if we were ever going to do it — now would be the time. We all put our heads together, and it just seemed like — with all of us in different cities and leading complicated and over-committed lives as we do — that it would be very, very difficult for us to to dedicate the time it would take for us to live up to the standards that we want to live up to.

If we were going to do shows, we would not want it to be half-assed. There were good and bad things about Jawbox, but we always held ourselves to a pretty high standard as far as playing shows. We would want to make sure we did it right, and we felt like we couldn’t take the time to do that. So that was pretty much the beginning and the end of the reunion discussion.”

  3. didn’t one of them say that it definitely was not going to happen?
