Paul McCartney’s son finds The Light

Paul McCartney’s son finds The Light

In news we just feel obligated to report on, the son of Sir Paul McCartney, James, recently formed a group called The Light. McCartney will be playing guitar along with Bryan Johnson on drums and Charlie Turner on bass.

Both Johnson and Turner grew up in Allerton, the same area of Liverpool that Sir Paul spent his childhood and inspired many of his future hits. McCartney met his bandmates about a year ago after being introduced to each other by producer David Kahne.

The Light is said to be currently mixing its debut studio album at Hog Hill Studio in Sussex, though no additional details have been given. That said, McCartney did note that his father’s sounds won’t be the only thing influencing the band’s sound. “The music was inspired by The Beatles, Nirvana, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Radiohead and all good music,” explains McCartney. Talk about covering your bases.

For a preview, might we suggest scrolling down, where you’ll find footage from the band’s first ever U.S. performance. It went down as part of the David Lynch Foundation event in Fairfield, Iowa this past weekend.

  1. I watched these low-fi recordings of Fallen Angel, Angel and Denial. I was VERY impressed with James’ voice, playing and his songwriting talent! The melodies are effortless and inventive and I totally look forward to hearing his whole album.
The only criticism is that his middle range singing needs a tad more support, but I think that was probably just nerves. WAY to GO, James!

  2. He is really good, i just think he is opening up, id work with him, but im sure he wants to Work with Sting.

  3. Sorry, but It almost seems as if James is trying to hard. He is now 32 and some of the screaming seems odd and forced. The music is unfocused and uninspiring. I wouldn’t like this noise if he were Elvises son (or anybody elses! C-

  4. James and the band sound good to me. It will get easier for you James as time plods on, and after everyone tries to get a piece of you. Your mom had that road to travel. You will be harder on yourself than anyone else will be…ROCK ON!!!!

  5. I think he can step out of his father’s shadow, similarly to how Dhani Harrison and Julian Lennon did. They all forged their own path and found their niche, in a way. The focus should (hopefully) be on the band as a whole and how their career progresses.

  6. I think he’s really cute and very talented. Stop hateing, HATERS!!!!!!

  7. No matter what he does, he will always be compared to his father…

  8. Great piano on Fallen Angel - love the story in the song and its inventive melodies, especially the ones at the beginning and end of this piece on this site. Really love the guitar on Denial. More please. James McCartney has real songwriting talent.
I hope he will just get out and do it and will ignore the naysayers - they’re everywhere and should never be paid attention to, as they put down everyone until they’re stratospherically successful with the masses, and even then they enjoy insulting and harming the talented (whose talents, good luck and success they’re jealous of, truth be told). Every performer must strengthen themselves physically, vocally, emotionally and in performance - and that comes with lots of exercise and practice in front of many, many crowds.

  9. The odds are against this poor chap…

  10. I see he got Linda’s musical talents.
