Fall Out Boy announces a “break”… with emphasis on break
Tons of bands have been pulling rank and deciding to take a break for solo projects or to cool down the musical fire. Whether it’s patient zero of TV On The Radio or even the Boss himself, something’s going around. The latest victim? None other than pop-punk giants Fall Out Boy.
The rumors of a break began to circulate earlier this week amidst claims that the band had hit a creative roadblock and after drummer Andy Hurley tweeted that the he and his fellow members were on a hiatus (which was later changed to “break”). Not surprisingly, all this cause a few fans to eventually lose their cool. So, in hopes of answering the question once and for all, guitarist Pete Wentz spoke with MTV yesterday to reveal that Fall Out Boy is indeed on a break. A break… not a hiatus.
“I don’t think I would use the word ‘hiatus’ because I think that word has gotten a dirty name, especially if you say ‘indefinite hiatus… I wouldn’t use the word ‘breakup’ because that’s not true. It’s a break - we’re decompressing. I’m making a new term for it: we’re decompressing right now. We’ve been doing this for eight years straight, where it was pre-recording, record, promo, tour, tour, pre-recording, record, tour, tour, and our band was going to imminently implode.”
The band’s spokesperson further emphasized that Fall Out Boy is not on a hiatus, stating to NME, “It’s a break with an indefinite date when they’re coming back.” To think, all this over a little linguistic snafu.
Ironically, Fall Out Boy recently relived its last eight years with the release of Believers Never Die: Greatest Hits, on Novemeber 17th. It should help ease your wait until that hiatus, er, break is over.

I will die if this is not taken care of. why me? why…me?
aawwws, chris. that p.s. is exactly what i feel. and yes, fob definitely deserves the break that they’re taking. i really hope that it is nothing more than just a break. i love fall out boy. they’ve been my favorite band for soooooo long. guys go take that break, be around friends and family, take care of that adorable son pete, and come back when you are good and ready. (just make sure to come back)

I agree with jamie. You guys are such a great band and youve given your fans hit after hit after hit. If Fall Out Boy didn’t take a break and get the creative juices flowing then youd started putting out stupid songs and no one wants that. So go home, take a bath, go to europe for vacation. I just hope that you guys don’t wait as long as Whitney did to come back, a 7 year long break, that must have been torture for her fans. Have yourselves a great time and come back in 3 to 4 years I don’t think we f.o.b. fans can wait any longer than that.

Fall Out Boy is amazing!. They are my favorite band and i think it is a good idea for them to take a break because they need it. I know if I was in a huge band like them and had to go on tours all the time I would want a break to.
No matter how long the wait is, or even if they do decide to break up, They will always be my favorite band of all time, i love all of their songs and they keep on getting better.

Okay, lets get this straight…FOB did not break up, they’re basically just taking a break because they have been on a really big high rise in their career and its getting to be too much for them right now, its completely understandable it happens.
I hope that the wait isn’t too long though, Fall Out Boy has always been one of my top bands and probably always will be. I love their music, it gets better with every CD they make. They are a very hard working band and I appreciate their successfull efforts. They make excellent music!!!
I have faith that they’ll come back. Pete, Patrick, Andy and Joe are too close and too good of friends to not join back up again. I also don’t think that FOB is the type of band who would dissapoint their fans by just breaking up out of nowhere like that. I love them!! Long live FOB!!!!

All in all, I think Mr. Wentz has a point — this FOB train has practically gone non-stop, and if they feel the need to take a breather then so be it.
On the downside, has anyone actually listened to the track “Alpha Dog” that Fall Out Boy is using to promote its hits release? My God…
