U2 to headline Glastonbury 2010

For its 40th anniversary, the world’s largest music festival has tapped the world’s biggest band. Yes, donning Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage as the 2010 Friday night headliner will be none other than U2.

The appearance will mark the band’s first ever appearance at the U.K. festival, set to take place from June 23-27 in at Worthy Farm in Pilton, and appropriately enough, it will come on the year that the event will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

U2 joins Rockstar 09 winners The John Vistic Experience as the only acts officially announced for Glastonbury 2010, however, there are a slew of rumors with everyone from the Rolling Stones and Radiohead to Pet Shop Boys and Fatboy Slim having been mentioned as possibilities. The complete lineup is expected to be unveiled next May.

As these things typically go, tickets for Glastonbury have already soldout, However, some could become available early next year.

  1. It IS an experience and U2 are fantastic live. Just saw them at Fed Ex Field a few months back. However, I’m not sure what headliner I was expecting. I figured Radiohead would be fantastic as always. Blur would be killer as well (sigh).

    Maybe Liam Gallagher’s new band will be the band opening for U2? Ha.

  2. I disagree. I think U2 is a great pick for Glastonbury. They always put on a great live show and work best in front of a large crowd. I hope they hit some American Festivals too so I have a chance to see them at one. No matter what they play, it’ll definitely be an experience that shouldn’t be missed.

  3. God damn it. This plus the gap between June 7-12 in their tour dates basically confirms them for Bonnaroo. Disappointing.
