Another member of Rilo Kiley goes solo, finally

Following in the footsteps of frontwoman Jenny Lewis, lead guitarist Blake Sennett, and bassist Pierre de Reeder — in other words, everyone else in Rilo Kiley — Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel will release his first solo album on January 12, 2010.

Hustler’s Son, named after the first song Boesel ever penned, is being issued by Team Love Records, co-founded by Conor Oberst, which is just the first bit of two-degrees-of-separation indie-music lore that surrounds the album: Boesel manned the kit for Bright Eyes’ seventh studio album, Cassadaga, and its 2005 tour. Sennett is one of Boesel’s in-studio collaborators on the 11-track Hustler’s Son, just as Boesel played drums for Sennett’s side project, The Elected. Oh, and Hustler’s Son was produced by Jonathan Wilson, who produced Jenny Lewis’ second solo album, Acid Tongue.

Thus proving that Rilo Kiley, unlikely as it may seem, is the George W. Bush of the L.A. indie scene: insistent on inner-circling itself with all of, say, eight like-minded music types.
