As you may have heard, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are going on a hiatus. This of course does not mean Bruce Springsteen, the individual, will be. So while 2010 might not prove to be as busy as 2009, the legendary New Jersey native is already eying his next endeavors, which will include a few new releases and one potentially epic collaboration.

First, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen’s longtime manager, Jon Landau, confirmed that 2010 will see the release of the long-rumored Darkness on the Edge of Town boxset. Final details are forthcoming, but the package will likely include a remastered edition of the disc, a new documentary about the making of the LP, as well as live footage from the 1978 tour.

“The Darkness box set is 93 percent done,” explained Landau. “It’s absolutely fantastic and there are just some finishing touches that we need to turn our attention to and finalize and we’ll get it out there.”

Landau also confirmed that Springsteen will release a Working on a Dream tour DVD in the coming months as well, perhaps as soon as early next year. And, based on our reviews, one would expect it to be quite good.

Then, there’s this little nugget: When asked about his own upcoming plans in an interview with The Republican, former Kinks frontman Ray Davies suggested that a collaboration album could be in the cards, one which could hear him team up with everyone from The Boss to Metallica.

“I might talk to [Metallica] about doing a song, it was an unexpected liaison the other week (at the Rock Hall benefit) but I listen to their music and I think we could do a quite interesting collaboration. Also I chatted with Bruce Springsteen at the thing and he’s up for trying it. I want it to be diverse and interesting, not the obvious things and hopefully stretch the artists and get them to do things that either that they wouldn’t have thought of or in some case that I wouldn’t have thought of. I’d like it to be truly collaborative.”

Now, wouldn’t that be, um, well, Boss.
