During Deer Tick‘s incredible show in Troy, NY a few weeks back, John McCauley mentioned a new forthcoming EP, from which he and his band even showcased a few tracks. When introducing the new songs he said, “It’s called More Fuel For the Fire . . . So Pitchfork can burn us again.” The crowd laughed, assuming he was joking about the whole thing. Well, the statement wasn’t a joke entirely. Deer Tick has a new, iTunes exclusive EP coming out on December 1st via Partisan and it’s indeed entitled More Fuel For the Fire. Though the Pitchfork thing sounded pretty funny coming out of McCauley’s mouth, it’s unclear whether or not the band actually named the EP in spite of Pitchfork’s tendency to look down upon the Providence folk-rockers. Probably not.

Anyways, the EP will feature three new tracks taken from recording sessions in Upstate New York dubbed “The Black Dirt Sessions” as well as a live version of Born on Flag Day‘s “Straight into the Storm”.

Deer Tick continues with its current tour in Charlotte, NC on the 18th. Based on our experience with the group, neither their live show or the forthcoming EP should disappoint in the slightest.
