On March 12th, Focus Features will release Greenberg, a new movie directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Ben Stiller. Found on the recently released trailer for the film is the following (via The Playlist): “featuring new music by james murphy of LCD Soundsystem.” What’s this, you ask?
Well, a quick Google search (done by P4k) leads us to a newly published interview between Murphy and Drowned in Sound. The frontman confirmed that he is indeed working on a soundtrack on the film.
Per Murphy:
“working on the LCD record, and the shit robot record, as well as scoring a movie for noah baumbach, which has been really fun … i like the director– we’re friends– and we like a lot of the same music, so this has been entirely fun. sounds NOTHING like LCD, really, which cracks us both up. it’s made to fit the movie, not be ‘my record’. but i’m really proud of it.”
The trailer, which features LCD’s “All My Friends” and possibly a James Murphy cameo, can be found below.
We should also note that Murphy shared a few more details concerning the aforementioned new LCD album in that DiS interview. Specifically, this more than confusing part:
i guess it sounds like LCD, really. i mean, it’s different in some ways, maybe the same amount that [Sound of Silver] was different than the first record– maybe more different. had to say until it’s done. it sounded more generous when i was in LA, but since i’ve been back, the few things i’ve written for it and worked on are more spartan and muscular, the way lcd stuff often is … it’s wonky and maybe a bit more synth-driven, but not necessarily more dancey. i don’t know yet. everything might change. it’s like that.”
Neat.
