Wolf People offer good Tidings early next year

Two reasons why Tidings, the forthcoming release from the London based blues rock band Wolf People, is a big deal: The 15-track effort will not only serve as the band’s most expansive release to date, but it will mark its first release on Jagjaguwar Records, the Indiana-based label that recently made Wolf People the first U.K. rock band to join the roster. The effort will be available beginning February 23rd.

According to a press release, the songs found on the album are made up of recordings by the group’s guitarist/vocalist, Jack Sharp. It other words, it’s not necessarily the band’s debut LP (more on that later), but rather a compilation of sorts. This collection was created by Sharp from 2005 to 2007 in Bedford, England and first released as a series of singles by Battered Ornaments Records. Soon after these releases, Dan Davies (bass), Joe Hollick (guitar), and Tom Watt (drums) joined with Sharp to form Wolf People.

Containing feedback, tape hiss, and various background noise, Tidings finds inspiration in updating classic blues structures and half-forgotten English folk songs. One of the album’s singles, “October Fires”, illustrates this point and can be downloaded below.

All of aforementioned will serve as an “index of possibilities, whetting the appetite for the band’s debut LP, which is due for release on Jagjaguwar later in 2010.”
