Pay what you want for early Girl Talk albums

By Alex Young on December 7th, 2009 in News, Tour

Aside from being a damn good album, we’ll forever remember Girl Talk’s 2008 album Feed The Animals for its incredibly unique “Pay What You Want” model. Looking to keep a good thing going, the musician born Greg Gillis has decided to do the same with his early studio efforts.

Yes, Girl Talk album’s, 2002’s Secret Diary and 2003’s Unstoppable, are now being released via a “Pay What You Want” plan on Illegal Art. Unstoppable is available now; Secret Diary will be available on January 5, 2010. Both can be obtained for nothing… or something by clicking here.

In equally cool news, Illegal Art has announced the release of Girl Talk’s 2006 Night Ripper on 180-gram two LP vinyl. The limited edition set will be available for $100 with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity organization, mycharity: water. The goal is to find at least 50 donors allowing for Illegal Art and Girl Talk to fund a $5,000 well that will provide clean water for a community for 20 years.

  • All he does is put songs together is kind of like saying “all he does is play guitar”, but no, it isn’t legal. The label is called Illegal Art. They argue Fair Use and nobody has seen fit to dispute them so far, so it doesn’t matter.

  • I only see Unstoppable, Night Riper and Feed the Animals. Did they remove Secret Diary?

  • Is that really legal? All the guy does is put songs together.

  • Unstoppable is just as good as Nightripper and Feed The Animals. Secret Diary is very different, more of a glitchy IDM type of sound than what I think of as Girl Talk.

  • Note that the Illegal Art catalog is available via the same means. These blokes are doing it the right way for the right reasons. Support your artists!!
