Sonic Youth plans many projects, including new album

Between the signing of a new record contract, the release of The Eternal, a supporting global tour, and a broken wrist, 2009 has been quite the eventful year for Sonic Youth. But as the band revealed in a newly published interview with the BBC (via TFB), we haven’t seen anything yet.

According to guitarist Lee Ranaldo, Sonic Youth’s 2010 plans will include the recording of another new studio album, the release of a DVD featuring footage from the band’s recent 2007/2008 Daydream Nations tour, the unveiling of a soundtrack for a yet-to-be-named French film (Exclaim! speculates its for Michel Gondry new film, Return of the Ice Kings), and some spring cleaning of its Hoboken studio ahead of what will likely be the digitization of 30 years worth of archives. Got all that?

If not, let’s recap: New studio album, new DVD, new soundtrack, and a completely digitized archive, all from Sonic Youth, coming soon to an iPod near you…

Plus, the band still has a few upcoming tour dates to tend to (with more probably still forthcoming). This does not include Thurston Moore’s one-off with Houston-based singer/songwriter Jandek at Portland’s Hollywood Theatre next April, which in and of itself sounds awesome.

One word: Wowzer.
