Given the last year, the following news it no real surprise. Still, we should still note that Kings of Leon, aka the band that headlined Sasquatch! and Lollapalooza, got covered by Nickelback, hit platinum, released a live DVD, and received a Grammy nomination all in a nine month span, has announced plans for a six month break (via NME).
But don’t fret too much. Despite the break, drummer Matt Followill revealed that the band had already begun writing material for their fifth album, the followup to 2008’s Only By The Night.
“We have ten songs already.” he explained. “Two weeks ago we had a set-up in a dressing room in Vancouver and re-ran through them.”
See you in six months…

I like how when a band makes one album that people don’t agree with, all of a sudden they’re no longer good. Because talented people aren’t human, and they never run out of ideas or hit creative stumps, right? Poseurs, you guys weren’t real fans to begin with. Now I’m not saying that you must like everything the band does to be a fan, but to turn on them because they failed to meet your expectations on one record is pretty cold, to say the least. At least be happy that they’re finally tasting some success. I think every band dreams of reaching that level of success, and they worked damn hard for it. And “Only By The Night” isn’t that bad of an album. Geez, people. And to think there once was a time when people were actually glad to hear their favorite rock band get airplay and rule the charts…

No Tanya I love them. Why do people get turned off when a great band starts actually making the big bucks? And they told us they are taking a break, so super fans like me know when they’ll be back in the spotlight. 6 months, too long, love you guys!
I love KOL, but why even announce your taking a 6 month break? I could see if it was 6 years. 6 months? That seems normal.
What!!!! am I the only one who still absoloutly loves them…why do ppl turn on them only cause they finally are getting the air time they deserve. I dont know about you…but more albums sold…means more money…and means more ppl listening to them…which in turn means bigger concerts, and a chance to see em even more. I love all their albums, and I can’t wait to hear their next one!
Couldn’t agree more with everyone…. KOL used to be one of the best live acts out there… now… they have STDs that turn their sex on fire when they use somebody.
Yeah man, that new album is probably going to eat if they’re just shitting out 10 songs that fast. These guys actually used to be good, such a bummer.
my sex is on fire how bout yours
i guess that means the southern boys will be back at bonarooooooo hopefully not headlining
they USED to be exciting…they really need to go back to the Youth and Young Manhood / Aha Shake Heartbeat sound, but they wont, so i guess ill just have to keep waiting for American Bang’s debut
They were good until they cut their hair off and started having Sex on fire…….
Matt is the guitarest. Nathan is the drummer
c’mon, they are so boring, so generic. there is nothing exciting about them.
too bad it wasn’t a 6 year break.
