New Festival Alert! Say hello to The Hangout Music Festival

Following a year that saw a lot of R.I.Ps, it looks as if 2010 might in fact see the North American festival scene once again expanding. First, we got word of the HullabaLOU Music Festival, a three-day event that will bring the likes of Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews, Al Green, and lots of others to Louisville, KY from July 23-25. Now there’s news of an equally clever titled Alabama based music festival also looking to make its debut in 2010.

As Alabama Live reports, Shaul Zislin, the owner of an 18,000-square-foot restaurant restaurant called The Hangout, has received approval from the Gulf Shores, Alabama City Council on a proposal to stage a three-day music festival at the public beach next May.

Titled, you guessed it!, the Hangout Music Festival, the event is currently scheduled to take from May 14-16. Capacity is set at 35,000 each night and the fun will last until 11 pm — By awarding the permit, organizers are able to run shows an hour later than would normally be allowed under city noise laws. Score!

As for talent? That has yet to be announced, but Zislin plans to spend as much as $2 million on bands to fill the festival’s four stages.

“We’re shooting for the stars,” he told Alabama Live. “We want the best that are available in the business to come here.”

Zislin says he plans to unveil much of the lineup for the event on January 4th. We’ll of course update as soon as we learn more.

  • Exactly one month has passed since the reported lineup announcement day and not a single act has been named. Weak!

  • Randy Owen tries to get in on everything going on in the state of Alabama.

  • Any news on this fest, y’all? My expectations are very very low. I’m expecting nothing like Rothbury or Coachella.

  • The above comment is not true. Right now there are rumors of Kings of Leon, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, and of course, the Buffett. No buttered pole dancing or sack races will take place. We Alabamians may wear shorts to every occasion but we at least have more class than that. Thanks.

  • I constantly find myself living in Alabama and
recently heard the bands they are fishin’ for are:

Sir Roy Turtledove and The Peers
    The Gulping Shores Singers
    Blind Soppin’ Gravybeard
    The Mervis Storples Experienz
Gang of Green featuring The Legs
    …and Randy Owen.
There will also be a buttered pole dance contest and
a legless turnip sack race prior to the musicness.

    Holy hell! I can’t wait.
