“Andrew WK was created, and this is a bit of a confession, by a large group of people, almost a conference of people, and we talked about how we could come up with something that would move people, that was done in the spirit of commerce, that was done in the spirit of entertainment… I am the next person who is playing Andrew WK.”
— The current Andrew WK finally confirming years of rumors that Andrew WK is not an actual person but rather a corporate creation (via TDS). Watch the revelation over at RockFeedBack; then sleep easier.
TAGGED AS: Andrew W.K.
AWK is the Andy Kaufman of Rock and Roll. Brilliant, as always. ![]()
I’m so confused.
hipster irony went too far when andrew wk became cool.
best band ever. andrew wk is amazing. this “confession” means nothing. he’s real.
best man ever
the interview is sort of confusing. he talks about the andrew wk persona as just a different time in his life and he has changed now, but also talks about it as a completely different person who played andrew wk. im still excited to see him at warped tour.
Correction Steev Mike.
I’m with Anonymous here. This doesn’t really clear a lot of things up? Was this(the current) Andrew WK part of the original panel of gentlemen to come up with the Andrew WK moniker. Then once Mike Steev quit the real Andrew Wilkes- Krier took over the role. Kinda a Vince McMahon/ IRS thing?(if you don’t get the reference, research it)
PS I have a friend that promotes shows and puts on a prominant music fest that has dealt with Andrew WK and has (in my friends exact words) “bought flights for him as Andrew Wilkes-Krier”
… WAIT … WHAT?
Pathetic…
I still say “Ready To Die” was something epic to behold, and the fact that this dude could just rock out on stage with a boombox of his studio instrument layers and a microphone — at least he enjoyed himself.
Haha, this guy is amazing.
worst band ever
