Jimmy Page readies for 2010 with new material and tour dates

With 2010 approaching at rapid speed, Jimmy Page has already made his New Years resolution clear: get back on stage. For the former Led Zeppelin guitarist, there has been an over abundance of nothing as his fellow bandmates were out there having all the fun. And with Robert Plant and John Paul Jones completely preoccupied with their individual side projects alongside the likes of Alison Krauss, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl, it’s no surprise that Page has been keeping himself busy with some new material of his own.

“We’re running up to Christmas now and next year I have every intention of playing music live and manifesting it,” Page recently told Sky News (via Spinner). “I’ve got the music waiting, and that’s what I’ll be doing. It’s been two years since the 02, so it’s time to do that.” Page was right on the bat with that one; it’s been exactly two years and nine days since Led Zeppelin (with drummer Jason Bonham) reunited at London’s O2 Arena for a tribute concert and it’s no wonder Page is so eager to share his new material with the world!

Shying from skepticism, Page has already been caught signing up for the 1st annual Show of Peace Concert; a globally televised event that will take place April 17th at the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, China. For the moment, information on this event has proven quite scarce, however its website promises more specific details and a full like of included performers after their press conference on January 13th. Currently the concert’s official website lists nearly five dozen artists that have been targeted including Prince, Green Day, Beyonce, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Kenny Chesney, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake and a slew of others.

Show of Peace marks the 30th anniversary of the cultural exchange agreement between the United States and China and is intended to serve as “a ‘’peace is green’ awareness campaign designed to not only promote peace with each other but to promote peace with our planet. Television and music producer Rick Garson, who is the mastermind behind this event, was later caught saying, “the passion and attitude of the Chinese people and the potential of this country made me realize that this was the right place to stage an event, as we watch the transformation of Red China to ‘Green’ China right before our eyes.”

While all of this is very exciting news, we can now only hope this is just the first of many worldwide performances by guitarist Jimmy Page. And then there’s always the possibility of that super group
