Johnny Marr to score new Antonio Banderas film

The latest and greatest indie rocker to dabble his hand in the world of movie music will be none other than former Smiths/possibly Modest Mouse?/current Cribs guitarist Johnny Marr. And get this: it’ll be for a film starring Antonio Banderas, who I had no idea was still acting!

As TwentyFourBit reports, Marr will compose his first ever score for the upcoming film The Big Bang, “a neo-noir detective story” starring Banderas as a Los Angeles-based private eye who’s investigating the murder of a stripper. Fun times! Details remain sketchy, but producer Reece Pearson compares Marr’s “assignment to that of Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead doing the score for There Will Be Blood and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam doing Into the Wild” (via Movie Score).

No word on whether Snoop Dogg, who also stars in the film, will be making a guest appearance. But one can only hope so.

The Big Bang is scheduled to hit theatres sometime in 2010.
