Wasting no time to kick off 2010 with a bang, Soundgarden has officially confirmed plans to reunite this new year. The revelation came just before midnight, via frontman Chris Cornell’s Twitter:
“The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!
The band has yet to detail any specific plans, but, according to a source with knowledge of the reunion, West Coast dates have already been scheduled for next Spring. The band is also said to be “into the idea” of an appearance at this year’s Coachella Music Festival.
Soundgarden last performed together in 1997. On October 6, 2009, the band reunited during night three of Pearl Jam’s four-night stand at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA. It marked its first public appearance together since the breakup.
TAGGED AS: Chris Cornell, Soundgarden
All the critics out there can just shut the hell up! I’m so there for the reunion and can’t wait for the boxset!
Curious. What will Matt Cameron do? Is he part of the reunion? His full-time gig with Pearl Jam seems like it might make Soundgarden’s comeback a one-and-done sorta thing.
Soundgarden played Nashville on 11-24-96
This is the only way Chris Cornell can redeem himself after one of the worst solo project disasters of all time.
Hey Marshall, they DID come to Nashville. It was 1992 at Municipal Auditorium opening for Skid Row. I was my first real rock show.
I’m very pumped about the possibility of seeing them again. If they could somehow tour with Faith No More, it would be incredible.
“Yay!!!!” – Stella
Normally reunions are one of those things that are better done sooner than later, but if you ever saw Chris Cornell perform during Audioslave his voice was pretty deteriorated from all the habitual smoking and boozing up he was doing back then. He’s really grown vocally these days though, if you saw him during 2007 & 2008 or at the Pearl Jam Los Angeles show a few months ago he’s just ripping it up again. I don’t think there’s a better time than now.
Soundgarden & Faith No More would be a great bill.
THAT REUNION IS FCKN AMAZING LETS KICK SOME EMO AND PUNK ASS SOUNDGARDEN. THE BEST NOTICE OF 2010.GRUNGE DEFINITELY IS BACK ON THE ROAD..SOUNDGARDEN,AIC,PEARL JAM GREAAT!!!!
i agree with chris. i’ sw them back in the day a few times and their sets were not great.
O hell yes, I just hope they come within driving distances of Nashville. They never did back in the day, so the chances look slim.
Don’t get too excited. Seeing them live is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, disappointments of my concert going career. Truly an extremely lackluster performance. Plus, after Superunknown, their music was rather lackluster as well. Even that album was weak in comparison to the previous ones.
OMG OMG OMG! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We should all thank Timbaland for this. After all, he pretty much destroyed Corny’s solo career with one incredibly craptastic album.
i’m taking to the river down to stillwater to RIDE A PACK OF DOGS.
Grunge is back!!!
1997 was 12 years ago? damn… i feel so old.
Soundgarden was great. Hope their reunion goes better than the Alice in Chains one.
and yes, CoS definitely means business ![]()
saw thenm at the last lollapolloozza at charleston race tracks..they seemed like they hated playing there..or they hated being popular at the time..
Pearl Jam is my favorite, but it is great to have Soundgarden back in our lives. They’re too good a band. can’t wait to hear them together again.
and that just goes to show everyone that CoS means business in 2010. Making posts the morning of Jan 1st.
