As a posting at the band’s unofficial website Stadium-Arcadium.com (via WNEW) confirms, Josh Klinghoffer has officially been tapped to replace John Frusciante as the guitarist for Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Kilnghoffer, who toured as a backing guitarist with the Chili Peppers in 2007, has previously worked as a studio musician with the likes of Beck, The Butthole Surfers, Neon Neon, Sparks, Gnarls Barkley, and PJ Harvey. He also formed the band Ataxia in 2004 with John Frusicante and Fugazi’s Joe Lally.
The 30-year-old guitarist is said to be currently in the studio with the rest of the Cilli Peppers for work on their next studio, the followup to 2006’s Stadium Arcadium. He is expected to make his live debut with the band on January 29 at a MusiCares concert in honor of Neil Young.

I love the chili peppers and Fruciante. He was the soul of the band. John come back ![]()
Im looking forward to flea taking more of a front stage, he an anthony supposedly went on a trip during one hot minute and wrote most of the songs, then navarro added on top, so if this klinghoffer guy is even a little better a collaborator then dave navarro was then hopefully ittl be good.
I have to agree with Roffman, listening to Frusicante’s solo work then listening to everything after one hot minute clues that he was the biggest writing force behind most of their work since then. I’m worried they end up putting out a sub-par much shorter Stadium type album.
I agree with the resume, and while Klinghoffer is not Frusciante, he has a cool-as-hell last name and even Frusciante himself digs the style so I have no argument here.
In the end, we’ll see how the next album turns out.
Not sure how I feel about this. I agree with the first Anonymous. No can replace Johnny.
dude has a stellar resume
No one can replace Frusicante.
