Radiohead’s Kid A re-enters Billboard Top 200

Want to know how much of an impact those decade-end lists can have on people? Look no further than Radiohead’s 2000 masterpiece Kid A. As onethirtynpm reports, the record, which ranked pretty high on basically every one of those decade lists (including ours), is currently sitting at number 100 on the U.S. Billboard 200, ahead of such other gems as the Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack, Dave Matthews’ Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King, and Enya’s The Very Best Of Enya. What’s more, the album is ranked #24 on the Digital Albums chart. Of course, this is significant because Kid A came out in 2000, which, at last count, was 10 years ago.

  • I think the concept was to make an album which would trick people with zero understanding of music and/or zero musical taste into revealing themselves by posting on message boards about how much they hate the album and the band.

What’s even more shocking, is they somehow were also able to get those same people to reveal that they are Brits.

  • come on Radiohead are over rated pretencious crap.
They hide behind crap vocals, niothing lyrics, skiless od rhythms and boring melody. Kid A is not good only how to disappear completely is tolerable, the rest is rubbish. Hannah Montana is better seriously

  • Kid A is arguably one of the best concept albums ever, even up there with Dark Side of The Moon..Amnesiac is slightly better in my honest opinion but OK Computer owns them all… Its a shame These guys aren’t going to see a dime of this due to no longer having a contract ith EMI..Anyway its just a combination of the media influencing readers and Radioheads relevance today..

  • On the subject of albums on lists and whatever you were bitching about…
I may never have listened to Sigur Ros if it wasn’t for these decade top 100’s.

And abunch of people buying Kid A makes me very happy, except they’ll all be sad once they reach Motion Picture :(

  • Radiohead got a much needed boost from being in Twilight. They got the rolling credits in film 1 – younger kids are just back-buying their catalog from that. I don’t see where all the anger is coming from, good music should be appreciated by all.

  • ‘That’s fucking stupid. Just because magazines list it as one of the best of the past decade people buy it. What were they unaware that Radiohead made albums not called “In Rainbows”?’

sean, it wasn’t just because of the magazine’s list (well, maybe in some cases). these lists tend to bring awareness to music that you never thought of before. i’m sure not everyone that bought it because they saw it on the list is a big radiohead fan, so they might’ve not even known about In Rainbows, just the song Creep. and while that may be bothersome, at least some people are willing to listen to better music than what’s usually on the radio.

  • i have to admit that after seeing the lists i revisited my itunes and realized i only had half the Kid A songs. I then revisited the old CD collection and couldn’t find it. End result: just bought the whole album out of respect.

  • Well it’s not my favorite Radiohead album…more than likely because I played the hell out of it. Still, it’s deserving of this.

  • Once again, Thom Yorke owns Miley Cyrus.

  • Arguably one of the top 5 albums of all time, and obviously the best album of the past twenty years
