Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien explains In Rainbows release

“At one stage, it was put that it would be a digital release only, no physical release at all, a real statement … But we realised that … everybody likes to get their music in a certain way and they don’t like to go off-route with it. You have to make your music available to lots of people in different ways, make it available to people how they want to consume it.”

— Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien explains (via paidContent) why his band rejected a stricitly digitial only release for its most recent studio LP, 2007′s In Rainbows.

The comments come from a new interview with the upcoming Midem music conference. Check out an extended clip below. It’s pretty fascinating stuff.
