Shot in a glossy black and white, director Barney Clay (you know, Karen O’s new boytoy) rings out the dead, but oh do the ghouls look mah-velous. Each member — O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase — sing and orchestrate in their Halloween best, surrounded by graves, glowing orbs, and lots and lots of smoke. In ways, this style picks up where the Smashing Pumpkins’ glory days on video left off (think “Stand Inside Your Love”). It’s nice and fitting, but then again, the director does have quite the muse.
Does this finally put the album six feet under, or will another single and video continue the trend? We’ll have to see, but for now, we’re loving this era of the trio. A lot.
