I thought I was gonna die. I wanted to BE the artists I loved, like Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol – and I thought the only way to do it was to live the lifestyle.”
— Among the many revelations made by Lady Gaga in her new autobiography is that she almost died taking “bags and bags” of cocaine and LSD at the start of her music career (via Gigwise). The Grammy Award winner also noted that her most “terrifying” trip had her imagining she met Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. Yes, “terrifying.”
The forthcoming autobiography does not yet have a title or release date.
TAGGED AS: Lady GaGa, Radiohead, Thom Yorke
i’d take gaga over tori anyday.
youre all haters and just need something to complain about. just because she reminds you of madonna doesnt mean shes a fraud. shes a probably the only pop artist that actually CAN sing and she deserves waaaayy more credit than what is given here.
I apologize if I sound like a hateful bitch. I’m not. Truth to be told, I’ve nothing against Gaga personally and I find her personality much more believable than that of Taylor “Aw shucks, I can’t believe I just won” Swift. But the thick eyebrowed, naturally brunette Italian girl from an upper middle-class Catholic family from New York is gonna have to shed the “I’m wild and outrageous” shtick and make her music more substantial than novelty if she wants to keep her career going for the long-run. I think Tori Amos summed it up best when she said “She wants to entertain people. Right now, half the world is depressed and they need to be entertained.” Lady Gaga is like a cheesy, corny movie musical in The Great Depression. Her novelty is the fact that she represents sparkle and glamour in a time of doom and gloom. But what will happen that eventually wears off and people will demand more from her than just acting crazy? Does she have a game plan for that? I certainly hope so. Otherwise she is not as smart as people give her credit for.
And also, exactly how long and how much has Gaga been around and accomplished to release an autobiography already? There is nothing she can possible reveal that we can’t find out from her Wikipedia page. Can’t she give it at least ten years before writing one? Or is she even not sure that she’ll still be relevant by then?
“I think you have to admit that she’s doing something original and creative, which is very rare these days in the pop music world.”
Hmm, original. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! I respect her talents, that is a given. But I do not respect her music. When the music starts to back the image, you let me know. And no, it is not because she makes pop music, I like pop music so long as it is good and original. Gaga has a few catchy, enjoyable songs, I’ll give her that, but she is grossly overrated as far as originality goes. Madonna anyone? Look, I have no problem with an artist being reminiscent of another, but if each time I look at Gaga all I can think is “Madonna, Madonna, Madonna” instead of “Hmm, she kind of reminds me of Madonna”, then it’s extremely hard for me to call her “original” with a straight face. Strip away the image, what makes Gaga’s music that much more original than that of the others? It’s slightly edgier. And she writes them. That is all. It’s not better by a wide margin. I’m completely cool with the fact that she has acquired so much success. What I’m not cool with is with the fact that she is so overhyped by the media and her fans that she may become the next Radiohead; in the sense that you’re not allowed to say ANYTHING remotely negative about her. That wasn’t a shot at Radiohead, by the way. I’m okay with them. But you can’t deny that they’ve reached a Beatle-esque, god-like status in music.
Yeah! Now that your popularity is waning among the widdle gurls, whose parents have heard your horrid attempts at lyrics, publicize something that connects you to people that are 1000000 more interesting than you……..ooooh and include the weird combo of coke and acid for extra appeal! Market, market, market while the sheep are bleating!
Figures, how can you say that Lady Gaga has not, at the very least, produced work of “creative value”? I think you have to admit that she’s doing something original and creative, which is very rare these days in the pop music world. Even if you don’t like her music or her videos or her costumes, she still deserves respect.
I bet Yorke digs her. She is an artist’s pop star, after all.
i can see thom yorke reading this and coming up with brilliant ways to make pop stars disappear. i can see Mr. Thom saying to GaGa “yes yes! take the yellow pill! crawl down that rabbit hole over there . . .”
Cocaine and LSD is such a horrible mix of drugs.
she just lumped those two drugs in the same pile. stupid, she should have kept with the LSD, maybe she’d produce something of creative value.
I second that…. I’ll likely have nightmares just thinking about it.
no, yorke mings to the fullest effect. he’d make be have a really bad trip.
Ironically, for the rest of the world, meeting Lady GaGa in a hallucination would be the most terrifying thing imaginable.
